I think they are great. I may have commented this on another video but when I found these were available I picked one up immediately, in left handed. I actually take this to gigs, along with my modded mexican strat. No need to take $$$ guitars to club gigs for me.

Epiphone’s can be hit n miss. I’ve owned a few over the years, currently own the SG 61” maestro with the pro buckers,great pickups. The toggle switches are crap but can be swapped out. I think the Artist LP59 CBS delux with their own Bullbuckers kill the Epiphone. If you can overlook the Artist logo on the headstock, you can’t go wrong.

Forget the guitar. It's just another Gibson but I like your playing on the Epi so much better than on the strat. The humbuckers inspire a different groove ✅👍

That's nice dear. 99.99999% of women don't need an attractive husband, but I'm confident you'd choose a handsome one over an ugly one. Music is art, and player and guitar interact in a very physical way, so most of us want to have an emotional bond with our instruments. They are more than tools......they are lovers. Thats said, looks and sounds like a lovely guitar.

The Epiphone 50's sounds better than the other Epiphone Les Paul guitars, to me. It has Probucker 1 and 2 pickups as opposed to Probucker 2 and 3 pickups in the 60's version. Also, it has the 50's wiring where the tone cap is wired to the output of the volume pot instead of directly to the output of the pickup. So, the 50's guitar has a bit more clarity and sparkle than the other Epiphone Les Paul guitars.

Yes, you're right. But, now a days if you connect any Les Paul to Boss Katana Artist or Boss Nextone Special,Boss GX 100,Boss GT 1000, you will experience different tones. This is in my own opinion.

Just thought I'd chime in as your video played a big role in my purchase this weekend of this exact model, gold top and all. This truly is a remarkable guitar for the money. Mine weights 8.4lbs, neck is wonderful and action was great out of the box. Only had to tune and raise bridge pup quite a bit as it was super low. Really fun and easy to play with its neck.

I have a 2017 standard in pelham blue metallic and I have to say that it's a beautiful guitar. I have had many LP's over the 58 years that I've been playing and the Epl is hands down the best player of all of them. I do my own setups and have learned to hone in on the details and when I first got the Epi I was stunned at how nice it was!

Always loved Goldtop LPs. Could never afford one, so this caught my eye immediately. Wary of the neck profile since I'm coming from a Fender background, but I want some humbucking tones. Used to have an 84 Gibson Explorer, which I loved and stupidly sold. Now I'm married and no longer get to spend the kind of money on gear that I would have, but Epiphone has been making its case over the last couple of years!

So it's been a year now with my lefty of the same model but, from Mexico. I love it. Out of the box it was ready to play, the pickups were at close to 3/32mm correct height. Comfort and like you said lighter, no shoulder pain. I installed a Mary Ford scratch plate and arm wrest with the flower inlays. A beauty. Thank you for helping us lefty's push to try these.

Great review as always mangreat to see such good instruments coming from Epiphone! Here’s a thought to ponder for the New Year: Isn’t it interesting that in the instrument industry, especially guitars, most popular NEW models of guitars are based on OLD guitars? Tuners, pickups, shapes, tuning keys, etc. are thought of as great if they are “vintage style.” I can’t think of any other business where the goal is to go back in time. I know this isn’t 100%, but it’s still curious to me. Perhaps it speaks to how impactful the music/sound of our guitar heroes over the years has been on all of us? 🤔🤙🏻🎸

The wood on the back of the guitar is a veneer. They all look like that. I’m not a fan. I would rather just see the plain wood grain. It looks fake to me. They did the veneer on both the front and back of the sg’s. I think it looks cheesy. You can see the line where the veneer ends on the sg’s. I just don’t like it personally. To each their own though.

You're right. It's a bit tricky to get it to look good on SGs because of the body shape. On LPs it's less difficult to get away with veneers. They do look good, I think.

@@xxxxneoxxxx yeah with the binding it looks a lot better than the sg’s. It’s a different species of mahogany so it takes stain differently too. The difference in color between the neck wood and the sides body wood and the veneer wreaks havok on my ocd. Lol.

@@intheblues yeah it’s a high quality veneer. They have a lot of movement to the grain but in a very uniform way. They all have that ribbon look. I think it’s cool that they went through the added trouble of adding the veneer. They easily could of saved time and money not adding it but then you would be able to see the multi piece bodies etc. So, maybe it was actually a cost saving technique so they could use more pieces of wood and hide that with the veneer. Idk. Either way it seems they addressed the issues with previous runs and they have upped their game.
@24avenged24
@24avenged24 3 жыл бұрын
@@guyfromnj My theory is that it's more of a cost savings in time than materials. Even if they're using the same number of pieces on average the veneers let them spend less (or basically no) time sorting wood/bodies, they can treat every body as if it's getting a solid finish.

Shane I'm on a limited budget and don't have the chance to try any guitar in my country. What would you choose one of this new Epiphone Les Paul or a Tokai love rock? I need to know that!

What a great looking and sounding instrument! How is the tuning stability? If you do a behind the nut bend do any of the strings stay sharp? Particularly the D or G.
@guitarocd9984
@guitarocd9984 3 жыл бұрын
Epiphone Guitars as far as tuning are way Superior to Gibson's. I have an old Epiphone Les Paul that never goes out of tune. They have only a 14 degree headstock angle. Which is actually still too much. Gibson has a ridiculous 16 degree angle. Also the string pull through the nut is straighter on an Epiphone.
@ResoBridge
@ResoBridge 3 жыл бұрын
@@guitarocd9984 You are right, but even on the Epi's I have had trouble with the string over the nut angles causing tuning issues. Gibson I believe still insist that their ridiculous headstock angle is essential to the legendary Gibson sustain.
@guitarocd9984
@guitarocd9984 3 жыл бұрын
I agree also people do not want Gibson to change anything. Or most people anyway. I hadn't thought about the sustain. I play a fender Esquires my Epiphone sits in the corner. Once in awhile I pick it up and it's still in tune it's ridiculous it actually makes me laugh. I actually cracked the headstock twice and it still stays in tune. I'm not trying to sell Epiphone Guitars I'll never buy another one most likely.

Now that you get a Graphtech nut included the only upgrade would be the pickups & pots. That might not even be necessary. Epiphone has really stepped up their game.

Going to get a Les Paul to use for recordings and want that classic Les Paul snarl from the bridge for some leads. Is it worth spending the extra to get the '59 Epiphone with Gibson Burstbuckers (now they have a Custombucker option too) or should I just get this 50's one with the Epiphone Probuckers? (I have another Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plustop Pro/FX which is great for song I need a floyd rose on, I think it has Epiphone Alnico Classic Plus pickups, but I want a hard tail piece model. So I'm torn between the 50's and 59)

I have the Epiphone 61 Maestro, very cool. The pro buckers are great, articulate rock machines . I play blues and they sound like the old school 50’s 60’s sound. Handle gain well and clean up well. The tremolo is nice for a bit of colour , definitely not for EVH dive mobs 😉

I'm torn between this or just getting the les paul 50s standard. I used to play but haven't played in q0 years and want to get back into it. I have the money and found a gibson on sale for 4600 and so so tempted to just get it but at the same time I think I should just go cheap and get the epiphone. Really can't decide. I feel like this sunburst gibson is just calling me but I can't decide.

I'm not into blues or jazz, or classic rock... I'm into rock. But not metal. I don't think I'm a big fan of active pickups (don't like them in bass). Which Epiphone is the right one for me? I'm so confused by Epiphone's shell game of a naming system. Always switching things around! Any help for someone clueless about Epiphones various models over the years?

Excuse me? They don't rewire the pots on left handed guitars? It's literally chaining 2 wires on each pot and would take 5 minutes to retrofit or zero minutes if done with foresight on during production.

I've said it a million times, I really do like and highly rate the Probucker pickups, better than the Gibson Burstbuckers IMO, and I think they sound decent split too, which I can do on my Epi LP Standard Pro-Plus. The pickups do lose a little high end when you turn the volume pots down, but that's true of most guitars, unless you put a treble bleed in it. The headstock shape change is kinda funny, now that it has a new shape, I am starting to prefer the old shape, but that's just my fickle mind.

As usual, great review and exceptional playing. Your playing style helps me more than most when it comes to reviews. I'm a non-repentant owner of a 2021 Epiphone Modern. I am now a huge fan of Probucker pickups. And the guitar is second to none. Sure, you can get different. But you can't get better. At the levels of manufacture employed today, the lines haven't been blurred. They've been eradicated. Sure, if I got the right deal on an exceptional vintage Gibson, I'd still jump at it. But at my age, I want guitars that I play-in. I play a lot. It doesn't take long. So for me it's probably going to be Epiphones from here on out.

I recently bought an Ephiphone 50's Les Paul in Sunburst. I owned a great looking Tiger Top Gibson Les Paul durring 2020. It was beautiful guitar but just didn't have 'that classic Les Paul sound? A few months ago I hankered for another Les Paul and out of interest I checked out an Ephiphone 50's Les Paul. I was blown away by the feel and sound. All them classic sounds are there. I couldn't believe it at first. All the Les Pauls I've owned and I end up with an Ephiphone Les Paul that only cost me £477. 😅😅 Mine has that classic nasal treble sound from the Pro Buckers. Almost a cocked wha which you will here from them original PAFs.Think Kosoff, Greeny, Alman brothers ect. I can play along to say Free and the Ephiphone sounds like Kossoffs Les Paul so as point of referance the Ephiphone has 'that authentic 50's sound' The cork sniffers will always put down the Ephiphones but I've owned many Gibson's and I can tell you that these new Ephiphones are up there with the Gibson equivalents in terms of playability and sound. Obviously, economies are made like a poly finish and the detailing isn't up to a Gibson but I don't care about that? The main ingredients are right though?? Here's what I love about the Ephiphone Feels like a Gibson. Top carve looks synthetic, more 'Gibson' Action is virtually on the frets Feels and plays like a Gibson Solid woods, no chambering Long Tenon neck joint Pro Bucker Pickups, nail that classic PAF sound. Authentic vintage Les Paul tone High quality hardware A big grin on my face every time I play it? 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 The only changes made was I had a Pro set up and I had the neck magnet turned round to get the Peter Green sound.
