Me too! It's hard to convey how nice the fit and finish is and how much attention to detail Dayton put into these, but they are works of art. I'm going to feel bad hiding them in an enclosure. I may even do a sub where the magnet is outside the enclosure if it isn't TOO noisy mechanically speaking.

@Acoustic_Theory3 жыл бұрын
The problem with long-throw woofers in the midrange is that even if you can get the inductance and intermodulation distortion low enough, the large roll surround causes a substantial "edge hole" - a dip when the surround starts vibrating out of phase with the cone, sometimes followed by another peak above the dip if the surround is really active. This could be a subwoofer or a woofer but I think it would have trouble in the midrange.
@kevinmc11113 жыл бұрын
Good point that it may not be ideal for a 2-way, but this is true of many drivers termed subwoofer rather than midbass.

Zarbo are you planning on doing a project on this woofers and comparison to peerless sub that you made
@zarboaudioprojects14303 жыл бұрын
Hi Anand. No, I'm not really. The Peerless sub is a much lower cost driver as you are aware. Besides being a LOT more expensive, the Epique sub is going to need a pretty big cabinet to get all that port in there if we don't want it to chuff... and since it's such a high-excursion driver, I think a design using it should be able to take advantage of all/most of it's excursion capabilities. I had a smallish tower design I wanted to use these in, but it might not work, so off to plan B. That's going to be awhile though. Thank you for commenting, I appreciate it.

Hey Howard! Thanks for the feedback. I THINK I will end up using my pair of these subs in the bottom of a small 3-way speaker, but I'm not 100% sure I can do it due to the vent size needing to be kind of large. I guess we'll see what others come up with for this driver -- I don't think it will take too long to see it used quite a bit, right?

Nicholas, check out page 2 of the Dayton Audio spec sheet on this driver for the frequency response graph... I think it would make a pretty good midbass. www.parts-express.com/pedocs/specs/295-102--epique-e150he-44-spec-sheet.pdf It's pretty flat out to 4k, even off-axis it's respectable to past 2.5k.

How much power can it take and how low can it go
@zarboaudioprojects14306 ай бұрын
200 watts RMS and it will reach the low 30's with the right setup. It does need some power, though. How much power is more a factor of excursion I believe. It may not take 200 watts without blowing up depending on frequency.

@zarboaudioprojects14303 жыл бұрын
Sure. They have dual 4 ohm coils so you could run the coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load which is just about perfect for car audio sub duty. Also, I think someone has used the larger version as a mid-bass in a car situation. Here is a link to that page: www.parts-express.com/Epique-E180HE-44-7-DVC-MMAG-Subwoofer-4-Ohm-per-Coil-295-104 Thanks for watching!

I've worked it out a bit with a smaller sub amp, but I haven't been able to work it out sufficiently to really stress it, nor have I built a box for it yet. I have a plan for these to implement them as a woofer in a three-way design already underway. That's a way off, though. Controversial? Because it's a little pricey? Not sure on that one.

Sorry, I haven't had the opportunity to break it in and frequency test it myself yet. www.parts-express.com/pedocs/specs/295-102--epique-e150he-44-spec-sheet.pdf I've actually heard it pronounced 'Ep-EEke' from PE employees in the past, not with this driver, but the other discontinued Epique woofers. But Chris P did seem to go with the standard 'Epic' pronunciation, so that's how I'll say it from now on. Makes life easy too. :) Thanks for watching my video and commenting!

I'm not too familiar with the currency of Turkey so I can't really understand the value difference very well. It is a higher-priced driver for sure, but it's very nice performer and gorgeous looking as well, which is why it's priced so high. Similar performance can be had in 7-8" subwoofers for probably half the cost of this driver, but this is what I would consider a 'special' driver for a 'special' project, not a run-of-the-mill subwoofer by any means.
