I really love the shots and the model is beautiful, but if you’ll allow a little feedback, I’d love to hear a bit of the ‘technical’ or artistic choices made here. For example, why did you choose 400H. How are you metering? Did you push or shoot at box speed? Etc. If this may ruin the aesthetic of the video perhaps it could just flash up as text on the screen occasionally. Great work by the way!
@timmyd9996 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would love this too (although I know this isn't the vibe they are going for)
@radicaleyemag6 жыл бұрын
Hey Joseph, thanks for your feedback! We've had this asked a few times and is something we are considering for future episodes. I don't really consider myself too technical, and personally find the composition and model to be the more interesting part of photography, so I think these videos are a bit of a reflection of that. That being said, we have discussed creating some different content which touches on these things though, so stay tuned for future uploads.

seeing te shots, Shooting in harsh daylight ( first shots in the field), avoid direct light in the face. The sun is illuminating here back in not even the tip of the nose is in direct sunlight. Summary: shoot against the light when harsh, overexpose at least 1 stop and most of all: go shoot and learn by doing. :)

@@sssssssev yeah, the shots at the end after the footage of the lens being changed are on the 180mm, plus the two shots at 2:32 (some of the photos are out of sync with the lens on the camera as we didn't always film the switch). Really good work! What shutter speeds do you usually shoot at with your rz when shooting handheld? I’ve heard that it can be hard to shoot with it handheld without getting motion blur, yet your shots have no signs of it. Thanks
@radicaleyemag6 жыл бұрын
Thank you T! The slowest I usually consider shooting the RZ at is 1⁄30, but this would be indoors, where it's a bit easier to remain still. I've personally never struggled outside, but I would probably avoid going below 1⁄60. I'm guessing a lot of these shots would have been between 1⁄125 and 1⁄250, with the last few being a bit slower as the light dropped off.

Thank you Nalla! They are high res, but I scanned them at home. I have a love/hate relationship with scanning, and have often struggled to get consistent results. I've also moved from lightroom to photoshop to manage the files, and have been much more pleased with these results.

@radicaleyemag6 жыл бұрын
@@brentsmith9411 I've been using the v600. For this shoot I used a new process, which is a bit different to all my previous scans. I used VueScan to essentially create a large .tiff negative file (with no adjustments in vuescan), then converted it in Photoshop using a plugin called ColourPerfect. Worth a look if you're looking for alternative techniques.

For this i actually scanned them as a negative tiff, and then converted them in photoshop using some software called ColourPerfect. I think this is quite an unusual way of doing it. And yeah, I warmed them up a little through this process.

How do you meter? Very curious since I’m getting into medium format
@radicaleyemag5 жыл бұрын
I used an app for these videos called lux, but I now have a Sekonic light metre. For models I use an incident metre, which gives a good general reading. But I usually rate my portra 400 at 200 ISO (So I'm then over exposing my film). Hope that helps!

Correct me if i'm wrong but with Golden Hour, couldn't you simply warm up your white balance during the day to get the same effect???
@radicaleyemag6 жыл бұрын
You could warm up images from other parts of the day, but you're not going to get the horizontal light that you'll get from a setting sun. For example, the photos from the beginning of the video were taken around 3 in the afternoon(i think), and have a much harsher light source than the ones towards the end of the video, which were probably taken around 6pm.
