Habasa is an ethnonym, like German or Bantu, for Tegrena and Amharic-speaking Christians, their native lands being the highland territory of Ethiopia/Eritrea. The term has been used for two thousands year and derives from Habasat, a group, or a confederacy of groups, that constituted one of the main component of the Aksuman empire, alongside the Aksumans. Abyssinia ultimately derives from this term as well. Habasa people originated in today's central Eritrea and northern Ethiopia. From a cultural point of view, Habasa people do not relate to outsiders, wheter they are from the Horn or the continent at large unless they are Westernized. But from a genetic point of view, the people that are related to them are the Agaw peoples of central Ethiopia and the Bega people of eastern Sudan.
