I think as an African American it’s very hard pill to swallow, I understand the video and also respect all points of view. I wish I knew from an ancestor or heritage point of view where I come from in Africa, but that fact is I will never know. I can find a region, but I will never know my tribe! To not only be sold, but then generationally down the line be rejected by your own people is tough, and this is not what you are doing in this interview, but I say this if you find love, and it’s not necessarily from your culture embrace it. Because it could be what your culture has taught you, that makes you attractive, the reason I stated that I was African American is because I would love to marry any beautiful woman from Africa but my fear is because I’m American I would be demeaned, and it’s sad to say but for some Africans definitely not all, they will accept a white man, before an African American, but I do appreciate your perspectives, I am much a fan of Ethiopia and Eritrean cultures may y’all continue to live in peace! Shalom!

The both of you made great points, but I was mainly trying to bridge love and culture together, I might not have succeeded in making my point, I love African American woman, they are some of the most strongest, loyal to a fault sometimes women I know, and to bring up culture as an African American we have made tons of contributions to the world, just wish at times we had our own land, because we tend to be exploited a lot, everyone has somewhere to go but us, but I will say this and it’s just for conversation I’m not saying the either of you were insinuating this, but I’m proud to be an African American, there is no shame in my blood, was just responding to the videos of my African brothers and sisters hoping they could see life from a different point of view!

Dont sorry about the people stating they will not marry non-habesha or whatever. Their opinions are often just in that particular moment. Me as an diasporic African myself from Curaçao living in the Netherlands it has become pretty normal to be in Black Intercultural relationships. However I still see sometimes that for example that a Somali, Eritrean or Ethiopian would rather marry a European than an African from a different branch. It stinks of the illusion of white supremacy. White/European is better.

As an American that era mistaken for Habesha , Somali, or Nubian Egyptian I was almost engaged to an Eritrean and later North Sudanese, I think people should be open minded. So many people carry the same traditions and values that are not Habesha. I’ve experienced all worlds and honestly it’s e same lol. More of my Eritrean friends are open minded but going outside your race is an Amazing learning experience. I like guys from other backgrounds just wish more were open minded. 💕💕💕 that’s how we learn and love each other more. Especially in times like these.

My wife is Ethiopian, we had absolutely no issues. Culture wise it was different but I learned and respected hers and she did mine. Her parents didn’t trip one bit now her older sister was something else. When we got married both families had a great time. My family loves her and hers loves me. It’s all about respecting each other’s culture. They were just happy she was treated well, finished school and she was happy at the end of the day. Our three children are immersed in both cultures. They speak the both languages and have the same religion. She doesn’t have to work if she doesn’t and the family is thriving. There are bums in all cultures as long I wasn’t a bum and respected her and the culture it was all good.

When I was a teenager I didn’t know that there were such different culture & tribes whether in Ethiopia or Eritrea. And I always used to prepare Ethiopian/Eritrean girl in my life and I’m Sudanese. For me you don’t look different at all 🇪🇹or 🇪🇷. and I don’t understand which is Habasha and which is Amhara or Tigri, and I don’t want to understand either because it’s all means to me is just increases division. Finally I got Eritrean friend he explained everything to me. But what I experienced is that most Africans in general understand how they should accept each other only after they travel overseas.

Some times Outside of your culture means outside of your comfort Zone But when it comes to relationships love has no boundaries. You either love someone or you simply don’t.
@gerum009
@gerum009 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely right - love has no boundaries. However, when you marry and have children, there is more to the equation than just boundless love between two persons. Your marriage brings two families together, who were never together before (not to mention from different cultural backgrounds). Your marriage also brings children. So, there are different levels , types and characteristics of relationships created: you and your wife, you and your children, you and your parents/siblings, you and your wife's family.....your wife and your family...etc...etc. Your love with "no boundaries" may be enough to sustain your relationship with your wife; however, is it enough to sustain all the others? Granted, you and your wife can run away to a remote land and decide not to have children, in which case there is nothing to worry about except your own love to each other. I would LOVE to believe "love conquers all" because that would be nice, wouldn't it? However, the real world works differently, unfortunately for the idealist.

Dear fellow citizens of Ethiopians, our unique culture is different from the rest of the world. Many women date other cultures. They have health issues. Their relationship never last forever. On the other hand, precious children are affected to have Ethiopians name and culture and religion. That is child cruelty. We must be careful love is not a felling it is a commitment and our bodies are not for sale! Many women even they can't walk properly. Once we get into marriage union and we get into the grave we can't get out of it. May God help us by His divine grace to be with the right person on the right time. Amen!

Habesha guys on the other hand prefer dating habesha girls above anything. @Talk Habesha- This would be an opportunity for you guys to create a dating way/app/site for Habeshas born outside of Ethiopia and Eritrea. This will give you more options, life experiences... However, I also agree with being with who you love whether they are Habesha or not. One thing you have to ask your parents though, what is the real reason they want you to be with Habesha? In my opinion, it isn’t just because of the ease of culture, language..., it is because they wish for you to be connected with others, close to your friends and family or not to be lonely in this world.Most of Western life is based on individuality..., and your parents notice that because they came from close communities and families. These things truly matter in ones life.

As Ethiopian We have a map not a culture. We don’t have unique culture as a country rather we are a mixture of more than 84 cultures and languages. so I think as u guys said even if u date Ethiopians also still there is some cultural difference that we have to accept it. however that doesn’t mean that we have to marry outside habesha because at the end the cultural difference that we have in between different ethnicitys can be very easy to catch up but it’s hard if u date outside our tiny map from east Africa. It’s hard to feed shero for ur partner 😂 Am very cultural influenced person so u may not like my opinion but you better stick with habesha so that you can eat shero and enjra. To speak to this, I actually intended to marry a habesha and that was where my mind was at. Then I met my husband and it changed. We connected so well and our values aligned (faith, goals, etc.) more than with any other man I’d ever met. And we got engaged and it was so exciting, but I still honestly had to mourn the loss of that, I guess, dream. Now, I feel like I’m blessed because my family totally accepts him and he LOVES Ethiopian culture. We even plan to live in Ethiopia for some time. There has been some hardship, but overall, it’s been good. It probably also helps that I married a white man who is very habesha by tsebhai (if y’all get what I mean). Let’s be real, habesha parents care what race you marry outside of the culture and white people are the most acceptable (from what I’ve heard, at least).

Lu na yeah, totally!! There are prejudices in the previous generation towards non-Habesha Africans. Lots of Ethiopians honestly think they’re better than, say, Nigerians or Congolese or whatever other country in Africa. And they harbour the same prejudices against black folks in America/Canada. I find that there is a view that Ethiopians are just set apart. So i likely have it easier because when I married outside of the culture, I married a white person. Because of the lack of colonization (and other reasons), I think white is the most acceptable to a lot of Ethiopians if outside the culture.

The things I find interesting is how here in the U.S they don't educate people on the diversity and awareness of other cultures in the U.K, Canada or even France...they place emphasis on these cultures just being caucasian....which is far from the case. Multiculturalism is everywhere.

Interesting discussion. I agree that race does matter but should it be the deciding factor on who you should date or marry? After all, we derive layers of our identities from our race, class, religion, educational background, etc. but they all don't hold equal weight. I think it's a matter of figuring out what's more important to you. If you're born and raised in London, do you think you'll have an easier time sharing common values/perspective in life with a non-habesha from London or a Habesha in Ethiopia? Would you marry a non-Christian Habesha vs a Christian non-Habesha?

Culture it would nt mater in real life challenges . personality matters the most but if you go dating someone who is quite diffrent from your mother land you have to accept the other culture that you bring to the table along with having the defense mechanism whenever you fail in some aspect concerning marriage, parents will try to pinpoint where does this come from . So I think its a bit more love related whenever you pick your soulmate. The newly generaion care less about culture .

I will warn you about one thing.....get to know your significant other and make sure she or he really loves you. I do hate that I can’t speak to her mother. She speaks Amarhic and Oromo. We know how important communication is. My father in law speaks good English.....so that’s cool! If you were to marry woman or man from Ethio, it would be best in my opinion to definitely visit the country and learn the depth of their lovely culture. I’m from L.A.
