A solid and genuine response to recent events. It was nice to hear y'all take the question on and respond prudently for that I am appreciative. My only hope is that the Holy Father responds in particular to this issue as to quell any scandal it has produced and or has misled those now or possibly in the future on Church teaching - which I was happy to hear Fr. Pine state can not be changed. - In Christ brethren

The pope can have private opinions that he keeps to himself or shares with a few close associates. Sharing an opinion or making an arguement in an interview or documentary is not private, but public. A public opinion can be unofficial or official. He made a public, unofficial opinion, not a private one. Howevet, someone in his position should not give unofficial, public opinions casually since they will be taken by many very seriously. He knows that. He is slowly introducing a change in doctrine, trying to avoid opposition uproar.

So what happens if the Pope issue new dogma that the Catholic Church recognizes same sex civil unions? Would the bishops be forced to accept it?

Great episode fathers! A little question: did St JP II infallible declared that women cannot be ministerial priests in Ordinatio sacerdotalis?
@julioalonzo1383

From what I've read, he did not "define" it, but he declared it, in that he considered to already be taught as an infallible truth by the ordinary universal magisterium, so it wasn't necessary to define it via the extraordinary magisterium. Furthermore, one day it could be declared to be not only infallible, but also divinely revealed, making it a dogma

Are there times, or days, when what the Pope says is personal opinion and other days when he is speaking as the Pope and as such infallible? If this is the case could we be clear about when these time slots exist. Or can we expect-I expect-that whenever the pope says anything it has clear doctrinal importance

This hasn’t aged well in light of the DDF ruling of Dec ‘23. Probably should pull it.

This act. And what we do with our flesh. And not defining ourselves by it but using it as an place of worship. I sincerely pray the church holds true to being against the act of sodomy. By all. Straight or gay. As it is an act of profound ignorance and not to be embraced as a proper vehicle for the expression of love between two. Sometimes I wish we didn't have a "porteno" pope. He very much reflects his culture.

Put not your trust in princes. It is blasphemous to “have faith in the Holy Father.” He is only a man. Have Faith only in God. If you make Francis into a god, then you will be lost.

@@TheMacedonianGeneral All I'll say is Francis is very wrong about many things. That much is must be acknowledged. If you can't affirm that without fearing you've lost faith, then you adhere to the error of ultramontanism.

@@TheMacedonianGeneral it's refreshing to hear someone say this in this sort of channels where people tend to be stuck on religiosity rather than a genuine relationship with God.

Ryan Markey This opinion is theologically ignorant. If the Pope teaches contrary to the immemorial doctrine of the Church he is in error and you may be led into sin if you follow his erroneous opinions.

i completely disagree with para,s 11&5 . . it is not incumbent on the civil authority to defend the sanctity of sacramental marriage but rather the church and ultimately the family ( ie domestic church) . . . placing that in the hands of govt is all of us shirking our collective baptismal promise to uphold the teaching of mother church
