Best of luck with your trip Jacob, I am sure you will have a great time. I remember setting out on a similar trip over 30 years ago, I was so nervous thinking whether I had done the right thing. Once I was out in the sun cycling south every day all those fears disappeared. You have already overcome the biggest hurdle by far which is making the decision to leave and to follow your dreams.

Thank you Simon! Your experience sounds like a mirror image of mine after I said goodbye to everyone and got on the ferry! I was overwhelmed with a sense of dread which lasted two days (until yesterday). Feeling a lot better today which is a massive relief haha! Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it :)

How will you cross to Asia? Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan impossible to cross right now.

You are correct, unfortunately I'm going to have to fly from Georgia to Kazakhstan and skip Azerbaijan, if the border is still shut by the time I get there! Hopefully the border opens up, but I'm not that optimistic 😕

Why not go through Armenia? It's a beautiful country... And you can fly from Yerevan to Aktau on the Caspian sea. 😉

This is an option I did consider! I might be mistaken but the roads can be pretty rough and mostly unpaved? I think I'll use the saved time to detour slightly later in the trip :) This will hopefully make me feel better about missing Azerbaijan which looked stunning haha!
