I started watching when you were just setting out across the Atlantic Ocean and now I'm going back and watching the older videos. This is just what I was looking for: I wondered how you two got together and started sailing. Great stories! Somewhere on a Q&A video you laughed about being a professional video person and said no. But I watch a lot of sailing videos and yours are consistently some of the best produced. Great music, great stories, a nice blend of "how we did it" and just the joy of sailing. Helps that Sophie reminds me of my wife: you have that great joy in appreciation and a hopeful outlook. We sail an old Alberg 35 out of Anchorage Marina, Baltimore, MD, and we're never going to cross oceans (we think it's a big day when we cross the Chesapeake!). I admire the courage and determination and love you two obviously share.

I just found your KZbin Channel and am starting at the beginning! Congratulations on the new boat purchase (5 years ago) and I'm glad you're still sailing. I figure in a couple of weeks, I should be caught up to realtime. Looking forward to watching you live your life SAILING!

Sophie your sense of humour and ease in front of the camera has pulled me into your story. Subbed and look forward to seeing more of what you have to say and where you end up going. BTW, buying a 40footer for your first boat took courage.

Thanks Drew! Really appreciate :) to be fair, we really had no idea what we got ourselves into, and bought the boat like we would buy a house: in order to have a good living space :) She is big, and sometimes Ryan wishes we had a smaller boat. We do really love Polar Seal though, she’s a great boat! Thanks for the encouragement! /Sophie

[Ryan] HI Drew... Sophie is off sailing at the moment but i'm sure she will be grateful for your comment. Yes, the 40ft thing was a bit more ambitious than we even realized... but after a few small bumps and dings we are getting the hang of her.

You are a gifted story teller. Just found your posts and really enjoy the story. Your videos must take hours to produce but look effortless due to the humor and flow. Looking forward to more -- also watched the solar video - boatwork is a bit of a pain and you find your body twisted into shapes that would make a carnival contortionist blush. Great video.

Hi Matt! We just started, both our sailing adventure and this KZbin channel, so your feedback is very appreciated :) Ryan now and then wishes we’d gotten a smaller boat, but I love our 40 footer. Hey you two. With winter here in Canada, we are all about planning the first few years of sailing in Europe. First destination is Sweden, and then the Med. So we are following you - pun intended. We've gotten into a routine of watching one or two episodes before Netflix in the evenings, and haven't even gotten to Corsica yet. But we have taken away so much. A lesson learned in the Med was a bigger med kit. Enough puns. I thought I'd leave the comment here, as I am reviewing comments from the start to gleam more data. Thanks for the great content!

@@RyanSophieSailing Cool! We are still in the same place in the same building as the Bankomat restaurant. Have to be honest, not enjoying the winter up here in Stockholm, need someplace warm. In 2016 we probably passed you a few times as we were living here then. We have a few years of work to do yet before we can leave, will pick up the boat from Germany in a month. Exciting times! I haven't caught up with your videos yet, so some binge watching to do. Would be great to go for a beer or something if you guys are in the area. Br Chris

Go to the Med! Get more experience with sailing! With no water maker a crossing may leave you smelly Ha ha! When making crossings I'm a believer in Experienced extra crew! You may consider Shipping your Yacht to the Caribbean. The cost is almost the same when all considered. Where ever you go weather is always the deciding factor! Gentlemen never Sail to weather! And Sophie I think you need a helmet while on the Boat!
@RyanSophieSailing6 жыл бұрын
We’re on our way to the med Michael! We took extra experimented crew on Biscay, and we’ll do it again. I think that when we cross the Atlantic (some year...) we’ll do it ourselves. I love how sailing takes us out of our comfort zones and how much we grow from it. I wear a life jacket at any time when we’re under way, that’s better than a helmet ;) /Sophie
@deibertmichael6 жыл бұрын
Ryan & Sophie Sailing I've crossed the ocean a number of times and extra crew was always helpful! 2 splitting watches gets very tiring.
@RyanSophieSailing6 жыл бұрын
Yes, that’s what we experienced going down from Stockholm to Spain. We only did 2-3 days passages, and rotating watches when you’re two is so tiring... that’s why we were happy to have a third person onboard when we crossed biscay. The first night got quite exciting so we were always 2 on deck and didn’t enjoy much sleep, but boy were we happy to be three onboard...
@deibertmichael6 жыл бұрын
Ryan & Sophie Sailing We always had 6 on the 83 footer. 2 always on watch. 4 hours on and 8 off. If you can sit down lay down. If you can lay down sleep! Rest is good.
