I’ve never put that together like JM describes. Food and farming as the center of culture. It is so true and truly the most enjoyable necessary occupation.

As the head of a large public garden in England I have to say there is not many pleasures that beat kneeling down to work in the warm soil in the summer time. The apostle Paul said it was good for a man to work with his hands and to get to do what i do and get well paid is a gift from above

It would be really interesting to follow up JM's bio-intensive methods with Anne and Eric Nordell's bio-extensive market gardening system, for those who have the luxury of slightly more land to cover crop heavily.
