OG Streets of Rage ost is perfection. Good call on ABS cement. For plastic repairs I've tried using things like epoxy (E6000 or some tube), rubber cement and superglue to no success or mixed results in past. Can't wait for the next ones!

I had to do the Genesis repair justice with something I equate it to. For sure! Another great option to ABS cement for ABS repair is regular JB Weld.

Thanks. I had to think about how I was going to tackle the switch issue. The Lego was the easiest and turned out best way. The polishing stuff I hope people try on their really sratched up stuff.

I only used the 3 roughest grits. Using the finer grits would have made it too shiny. It's great stuff to remove scuffs and what not.

You can tell which revision it is by reading the chip number on the large square chip on the right. Compare it to the silkscreen descriptions right below it, and that will tell you whether it's a VA5 or VA6.

Yeah. Also the fact that it has TMSS with an EXT port… or TMSS with the power jack in the extreme corner… or TMSS with High Definition Graphics printed on top… or the trademark screen with the power jack in the extreme corner. There are so many tells for VA6 on a Genesis console though they obviously don’t all apply for Japan. Japan’s VA6 never had HDG printed on top and the power jack was always mounted to the board, further away from the corner, since there was no RF modulator displacing it.

I wish I was in Phoenix, as there are so much good and cheap moddable TV's and I'll just send you one for free as the shipping is super cheap too. Yeah, it's only until you step back and stop using it that you realize how great it looks.

Last genesis model 1 i restored had a rusted rf shield. Used evaporust which cleaned it right up. Then hit the outer shell with a good clean and finished with 303. Now i need to order that sandpaper kit haha. More tips im getting from ya lol. Looking forward to your instructions in the next restore!

Yes, it’s VA6. Despite many variations that are all still VA6 and a board identical to VA5, there are several tells. Any Genesis with a wired power jack at the extreme corner & Trademark Security System (TMSS) boot screen is a VA6. Any Model 1 with an EXT port and TMSS is also a VA6 but not all VA6 consoles have the EXT port. A Model 1 Genesis with no EXT port and a power jack in the extreme corner is VA6. Any Genesis with TMSS and “High Definition Graphics” printed on top is VA6 though some VA6 consoles lack the HDG printing. Any Model 1 Genesis with a wired power jack at the extreme corner and without “High Definition Graphics” printing is a VA6. On the other hand, any Model 1 Genesis with no EXT port, no HDG printing, and a more central PCB-mounted power jack is a VA7. Note: This does not apply to JP Mega Drive consoles where the power jack was always mounted to the PCB since there was no RF modulator to displace it and no consoles had HDG printed on them. Any Model 1 Genesis with a wired power jack in the extreme corner is VA6 (TMSS) or earlier (non-TMSS with EXT port). On that note, any Model 1 without TMSS is VA5 or earlier. The VA6 board itself has both VA5 and VA6 silk-screened onto it because the board is identical to VA5. The silk-screened part numbers next to those designations correspond to IC4, which is the main I/O chip. The one matching VA6 is the chip that includes the Trademark Security System that validates licensed cartridges and generates the TMSS screen before a game. Non-TMSS VA5 systems will have a different IC4 part number and will boot directly to the game. For the US VA6 Genesis with 3BP (Triple Bypass) I simply removed the RF box from the back and put the 9P miniDIN there, but it isn’t that simple for the JP VA6 Mega Drive since it has no RF modulator to replace. My JP VA6 was modified for PAL when I got it from Thailand. That means it has a frequency select switch for 50/60hz + an added RF jack coming out the side. I gutted the RF box, removed the frequency mod, and used the old frequency switch to select between JP/EN languages. Next, I’ll put a 3BP (Triple Bypass) with 9P miniDIN in that gutted RF box to use the hole they already drilled in the side. Fun stuff. :)

The X3 was on sale during black Friday run for a couple of weeks leading to Christmas for $36. It's $39 at everdrive.me/cartridges/mega-everdrive-x3.html , which is the official Ukranian store. Shipping from there to the US is $7. I think that's the best price there is. Amazon is currently sold out, and only has the X7 for $120+

Holy! You made it to the end! 👍 photos.app.goo.gl/GanSSrP5a2nNhpn97 But it's not a typo.... or actually it is! It's supposed to be "G'R'B'," which is the same as "R'G'B'." So technically G'R'B' and R'G'B' are correct, and GRB and RGB is wrong. Read the reasonings in that link for G'R'B' vs R'G'B'... LOL.

@@SCANLINETV LOL. You weren't paying attention! kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2W3pZJ7f52YZsk www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BHGC7G// It's polishing paper, aka sandpaper in super fine grits . You know how scale model cars have perfectly smooth paint jobs? It's because of this. Use the heaviest grit to repmove large, deeper scratches and smooth down "orange peel" on paint jobs. Then use the subsequent finer grits to remove the scratches from the heaviest grit paper. Getting to the third paper already removes the scratches, and the finest grits will make a deep shine on glossy surfaces. Even on matte surfaces, you'll be surprised at how near-glossy it can get.
