I think being a realistic romantic is a great way to put it! I love a good romance book but I don't consider myself a big romantic in real life. I've been with my partner for 12 years next month and I enjoy the easy routine of long term love. I guess my version of romance is little surprises or things I know he'll enjoy. On the topic of books, I didn't enjoy Caraval back when I read it originally. I got it when it first came out so I can't remember why exactly. I've tried a few times to reread The Gilded Wolves to read the rest of the series but I haven't made it through yet. I did really enjoy the author's book The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. It's a very beautiful but also very strange and mysterious novel. It's adult fiction so I'm not sure if you would enjoy it or not. Always love seeing what you're working on, Stephanie! ❤❤

Okay, I finished The Gilded Woves (book 1) and started book 2, The Silvered Serpents. It feels really angsty and honestly kinda frustrating - like come on people, just TALK TO EACH OTHER, TALK ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS. lol. I skimmed through the rest of book 2 and I have book 3 from the library but I'm not sure if I'm going to read them right now. A bunch of my holds came in at once and I might see which ones I can't renew and read them first. I will definitely look into The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. Thank you Abi!!

Amber from A Lovely Yarn mentioned you so I thought I’d drop by. Thank you for a nice, versatile episode … sharing is always welcome but not if it goes on for 3 hours 😅 It was the perfect length with enough variety to keep me from pausing to go find something to do while I listened. Sometimes a break from knitting is good 🤓 I love your reviews of the projects you have finished as well as suggestions as to modifications to consider. Also… your books section was great as I’m always wondering about titles for my grandchildren (10) of various ages. In fact the next one is turning 10 in a couple of weeks… wonder if she read the one you vetoed? 🙃 As for romance… I think I am a person in search of a little more as both my partners in life have not been romantic at all. I don’t need a lot… a daisy picked along the trail, a gentle squeeze whilst waiting in line at the theatre, opening the door for me… I guess it’s all “old” romance but I’m old too. I guess it would be nice to be the one NOT initiating it. But, I’m still hopeful 😊

The peony color of your sweater is beautiful! And, even better, a wonderful color on you, it looks so good😊 Really enjoy your discussion about your projects and the patterns and any modifications you did! I like your description of "realistic romantic" - I agree with you, I like personal romantic moments and intimacy. Big public romantic gestures sound horrible. So much more important to have a spouse who makes you wood buttons or takes out the trash or puts the toilet seat down or kisses you before leaving for work or holding hands on a hike. I think of it as being an "everyday romantic" because those everyday moments and actions are the real romance.

Thank you so much! I think what also got me thinking is how rom coms portray what's "romantic" and what expectations it might be telling not just the youth but adults too. And to challenge those "norms" of expectations of grandly public romantic gestures. And not to say there's anything bad with those either, some people may LOVE those but to have the whole range of ways people can be and are romantic might broaden peoples' perspectives/expectations???

I loved the first two books in the trilogy that you recommended in the last episode! ( "Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries" and "Emily Wilde's Map of the Outerlands") Like you mentioned about having to wait for books to be published, we now wait until February of 2025 for the third book. Argh! Just have to put it out too my mind. The wait list on all of the versions in the Hennepin County Library system was huge, so I went with the Kindle versions. Thanks for the recommendation! Now I'm reading the other book you mentioned last time, "The Prison Healer". Cheers!

I've been married 42 years to an amazing hubby who treats me like a queen b/c I treat him like a king. I've seen a lot of women give their hearts to men who are not worthy of their heart but they don't leave b/c "I love him" or " I can change him." I think I'm a realistic romantic b/c it is a head choice not an ephemeral feeling to give your love only to someone who is totally into you, committed to you through the good, the bad and the ugly as you are for them.

Love love love all of your projects. I want to knit them all too! lol.. I started seeds indoor and while most did take off, when I transplanted them, I noticed they are not doing so well. Thinking of planting the corresponding seeds right next to each just to make sure. I am like you in that I don't like when the attention is one me with a crowd. 1:1 is fine, but not with people looking on. Right now I'm finishing up an emotional support chicken, a gnome, a test knit shawl and of course the coloring book tee. It's slow going. Thanks for another awesome episode. You definitely continue to inspire us.

Thank you so much Stacy!!! Hopefully your plants will adjust okay!! It is a bit of a transition for plants started in a more stable setting indoors to going outside into the elements but I don't have the drive to slowly transition them from indoor to outdoor plants by setting them outside for more and more hours each day before fully putting them into a garden bed. That's more effort than I want to put into gardening! lol I just want to plop them into the soil and let them do their thing! Excited to see all your projects in your next episode!!

Hooray for Spring Green !! Flowers! No garden for me, sadly! Farmer’s markets for me…easier ! lol. Awaiting my order from Aimee Sher: Soana for her new tee + (??? forgot the name) for Oolong (I think I’ll use as a camisole) + Tea. I’ve got Tori’s tank in my queue, glad to hear about it! I like the wider straps, a-line style (-ish…I might modify like yours). Sooo, I need to get casting on! Want to try some different sock heels, so starting w some shorties. Ran across your peek-a-boo cuff “tutorial” the other day, more new & fun things! Thanks for all the inspiration…again!!

So excited for all your new cast-ons!!! Just a heads up if you do modify the Queens Cami, the BOR isn't in the center of the side so either you need to make the adjustment ahead of time for doing side decreases OR make the adjustment in the binding off of the underarm section (just so you don't end up askew!!). It might make more sense when you read the pattern but it just isn't as straight forward because the BOR isn't centered if that makes sense.... To note, it's already designed to be A-lined with the gauge change element in the pattern but... I just needed it more A-line lol. Take care!

@@EdibleThoughtsMakes Thanks for the tip! I’m drawn to an a-line shape, absolutely no waist, and short waisted, and, well…hips. I usually read thru a pattern, then I write out (in my handy-dandy notebook…no printer …boo) my own specs. Any issues or mods are written out, questions to self, etc. I’m looking forward to light, quick(-er), tops to help keep me cooler when temps are high. Altho, too hot is just plain miserable for me… I’m like a stick of butter… I melt! Thank you!

You are "goals" for me-you also sewed your pants!! I love it so much. I bought fabric like two years ago to sew a pink dress to go with all of my sweaters. You are inspiring me to attempt that this summer :) I just can't comment enough how much I love your cozy and sweet podcast. Thank you so so much Nicole!!! A pink dress to go with all of your sweaters sounds fabulous!! I just tried the Orchard Top (also comes in a dress option with two lengths) from Helen's Closet (free pattern!) and it's so so good. Spaghetti straps, swingy a-line. Not a lot of pieces to cut out and the front and back of the garment are the same. It's a fun project and categorized as Advanced Beginner. Something maybe to keep in your pattern collection if you feel like it suits you!! Your kind words are felt in my heart like a warm hug. Thank you!!!

I’ve also been knitting Christmas gifts; I joined Freckled Whimsy Christmas Sock Club in January, and plan to knit 8-16 pairs of socks by December. I am also a romantic-realist, probably more a realist, if I’m honest. I love the idea of romance, but I consider myself super down to earth, so🤷🏻♀️

Sometimes I worry that I'm not romantic enough. I've been married for 30 years, my kiddos are grown up and I definitely love them and my husband in a different way than the early years of my marriage when the kids were little. We had more fun and laughter then, definitely more tears too, but i really miss the fun and energy I had in younger times
@EdibleThoughtsMakes6 ай бұрын
We definitely change in our energy input/output in so many different ways as we go through different seasons in life! I think there are always ways to change things up a little, add a little spark??? I feel like with longer relationships, it may take more effort to do so because we've fallen into daily routines (which aren't bad but it lacks that "spark" or spontaneity that is exciting at the start of a relationship???).

My children are grown and moved on for several years now too. My husband and I are excited to be together now and we make sure to talk about it, & more than anything we want to be with each other. I think having the conversation about your feelings at our ages becomes more important because we can't do energetically what we use to do. But sitting and talking and finding out what you could do together also takes the stress off of each other and we share this journey, the good, bad, scary and new! 💙 GREAT Luck to Us All!

I'm totally inspired by your sock drawer project for your husband and making socks for myself this year. I have 2 done and hoping for 6 this year. Currently knitting up some more wash cloths because we need them and making a pair for a friend as well. I'm demisexual ACE so romantic to me is working on a project with someone or going for a long hike and camping for a long weekend. So for romance books, I like romance born naturally out of friendships or roommates. Throw in some magical realism and I'm hooked!

No, but his small sweet romantic gestures are great too!)

I think I am a lazy, realistic romantic 😂 The whole trope of being serenaded and public displays like that give me the ick and the cringe. But when my husband does a chore that is usually "my" job... that's a sign of love! I say lazy because I had a high school boyfriend who was clearly a hopeless romantic and he wrote me a list of 100 reasons why he liked me. They were actually all 100 separate reasons!! And I sort of huffed that I was expected to do the same in reciprocation 😅

They’re silicone beads! You can search on Etsy/Amazon/craft store. The smallest the holes go to is 2.5mm so they don’t stay on US1 or US1.5 needles but bigger than that, they work great!

I guess I’m a realistic romantic too. Proposal in front of an audience? Eewww!🤢But a touch on the shoulder as I am walking by doing a chore, yes. A gentle realistic romantic, maybe? My husband and I just today celebrated our 55th wedding anniversary by having dinner with our college-age granddaughters. Before we left for our meal, we went through our wedding album which was very romantic and during dinner, we held hands briefly under the table It was wonderful. Your makes are glorious as usual.

There are so many patterns out there for all preferences - you just need to figure out what works for you. Just to note, sleeve circumference can often be adjusted and decrease rates can also be done at quicker intervals if that’s what works better for you. Yes to looking around to see what others have made - I find that helpful too.
