Thank you for sharing sock tube experience! You’ve motivated me to get started on my sock tube…….that I’ve had for a few years😅

I just figured I can knit sock tubes (and did successfully!) from my flatbed (+ ribber so double bed) knitting machine! I was so happy, I love sock tubes , it is fun to vary and also gives me more motivation to knit socks as presents and for other people, as it takes way less time

I’ve never knit socks from a tube. Very occasionally I see a yarn shop or dyer offer tubes for sale. Watching your (this) vid, the idea of trying an afterthought heel jumped back into my brain. I had a “duh” moment…thinking I could only make a short row/afterthought heel, annnd I’m one of those w high insteps, researched “fixes” for this conundrum, you have (inadvertently) showed that Yes! I can still make a flap/gusset (refer to daughter socks). Double Duh moment. Thank you! Now I will be on the lookout for tubes! I will look for “denser” or heavier yarn, for longevity purposes. Also noting (to self), I can STILL try an afterthought heel, because of course (!!!) I have (ahem) yarn-a-plenty in my stash… Thank you for more inspiration!

Hello Stephanie. Since a few month, I've got a 3D printed CSM from Canada. At the moment I knit the most socks from a Sock-Tube. I have to learn, how to do toes and heels at the CSM. But it's okay for the moment. I have 4 Kids and friends, how love to get socks from me. The only problem I have with the afterthout heel is, that I don't have enouph space for my instep (I Hope, that is the right word. In German we call ist "Spann/Fußspann".😅) For me it ist the most praktikal method to knit so many socks.
@EdibleThoughtsMakesКүн бұрын
How fun!! What I've read is to knit more rounds before starting the decreases to get more fabric for a higher instep. A quick googling of "how to knit a cut in heel for a higher instep" leads to a few resources that may be helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3i6c2CtfKmaatU www.hardybarn.co.uk/afterthought-heels/

Many years ago I was experimenting with different afterthought heels and came up with (or found on the internet) a hat top heel. Can’t seem to find my notes or original internet link, but it’s an afterthought heel that is made with 6 or 8 decreases per round (probably every other round) until you get to a minimal amount of stitches that can be grafted or or just cinched up like the top of a hat. Happy knitting! Love all your episodes!
@EdibleThoughtsMakesКүн бұрын
That’s an interesting approach to an afterthought heel! Do you recall how it felt on your foot compared to one that just has the decreases on the sides? Thanks for sharing!
@chrisriley1573Күн бұрын
@@EdibleThoughtsMakes I still have them! They wear just like any of my other socks (It has 8 decreases, I just checked.) it looks really cool, like a true bullseye! I ultimately moved on with other heel constructions because I decided I hated to pick up stitches 😂!
@EdibleThoughtsMakesКүн бұрын
Great to know! I feel like for me, the stripes in the tube made it a lot easier to pick up sts without worrying about getting off that round below or above. Thanks for the follow-up!!

I saw the Purl Soho leg warmer pattern and thought of you😁💗💗
@EdibleThoughtsMakesКүн бұрын
I think I've seen patterns from Purl Soho that are cabled leg warmers and ribbed leg warmers - they're lovely patterns! These tubes would be PERFECT for quick-to-knit stockinette leg warmers because all I would need to do is knit four cuffs after dividing into four tubes! BUT if someone wanted to re-knit from the tube completely, a textured leg warmer could look really fun in self-striping yarn for sure!
@vivianpowell1732Күн бұрын
I knitted leg warmers for my mother about 15 years ago. Nothing fancy, just stockinette stitch. She was quite petite, and those leg warmers now fit me as arm warmers. I found the pattern in a wonderful book titled "Weekend Knitting" by Melanie Falick. I ended up ordering the merino wool yarn featured in the pattern from a sheep farm in Pennsylvania (also mentioned in the book). I enjoyed this video about sock tube knitting, and it's probably a quick way to learn the more challenging areas like the heel and toe. Those Classic Cable Leg Warmers featured in a recent Purl Soho email are lovely. I already have 2 skeins of Hedgerow in the fuchsia color, so I plan to knit those warmers.

The Santolina is a fingering weight.. . and I love the Green Agave color too. Did you use two strands held together or just one? Thank you.

Held single. It isn’t a very thin fingering weight - a little closer to sportweight in my opinion. Plus I knit at different gauge than the pattern.

😅May I ask what size is the one you made, so I gauge how much bigger or smaller I need to pick. I always wanted to make a granny square sweater. You did such a great job perfect fitdo you think pure alpaca yarn will work it is a finger weight I don’t to double it might be too thick please send me a link or name of the pattern thanks a lot.
@EdibleThoughtsMakes26 күн бұрын
The size I chose (2 but with modifications) is mentioned in the video and is on my Ravelry project page with details is linked in the description box below along with where to purchase the pattern. For your yarn, I recommend swatching to check for desired fabric density and gauge and see what size will work best for you.

This episode was filled with lots of interesting content. I reserved "The Spellshop" at the nearby library branch and hope it arrives in time for me to have a cozy read on Christmas Day. The librarian suggested the Large Print edition because there's not a waiting list for it, so it should be available by Christmas Eve. My favorite time of year is the autumn season, which then folds into the four big holidays from Halloween through New Year's Day. I've already opened one Christmas gift. A friend gave me a Woolstok Bundle of 21 miniskeins of yarn by Blue Sky Fibers. So if the book doesn't come in by Christmas Day, I can knit! 🎄🧶🎄
