I have ka24de motor and now i have strange problem. After cranking engine to prime oil . The distributor will not good back on engine. Before it wasn't like that after setting chain properly. Didn't understand what happened. Seem like the chain might have jump but how?
@Music-Man-Nick Жыл бұрын
Removing the distributor isn’t a requirement for this engine. The timing cover will come off without issue.

How did you get the big crank pulley bolt off? Im using like a 3 foot breaker bar and still cant break it loose.

JD 240sx Have you tried using any penetrant spray? Sometimes they get rusted on. Spray it down and maybe tap it with a hammer.

Primer2tone Garage ive used like a half can of pb blaster already and pounded the shit out of it with a hammer and steel rod, motor wants to keep turning im not getting enough resistance i think. I wish there was a way to stop the crank from turning. But man this whole timing chain job is a pain in the ass. Wish me luck!

JD 240sx Oh, put the transmission in gear and if the rear tires are off the ground, pull the parking brake. That should stop the motor from spinning.

Primer2tone Garage the whole car is on the ground its in gear and e brake pulled? Any ideas? And thanks for responding quickly even on an old video.

JD 240sx No problem man. Damn, if it still turn like that then your clutch is slipping. Or it's an auto tranny. Is the chain still on or did it break? If it's still on, you can put a wrench on one of the cams to keep the assembly from rotating.

How did you end up taking the cover off? The lower one
@Primer2toneGarage Жыл бұрын
You have to remove the oil pan.

@@Primer2toneGarage got it, was difficult to pry apart but just got it done. Appreciate the reply

@@Pop__kuz what components underneath had to be removed in order to drop the pan? I'm playing with the idea of just pulling the engine, since I need to do the clutch too.

I can use help getting my lower timing cover off. It looks like the protrusion on the engine side of that is broken off. Little metal ear

The tensioners are definitely in need of replacing on mine, but I think the main issue with my truck was a failing oil pump, which caused the chain to make a lot of noise.
@Primer2toneGarage Жыл бұрын
Did you remove the oil pan? That’s gotta come off before the lower cover can be removed.
@Music-Man-Nick Жыл бұрын
@@Primer2toneGarage The oil pan doesn't have to come off. Oil pump has to be removed. I got it off. The timing cover pry part is broken off so I can't grip anywhere.

The book says remove the oil pan so there's no leak between the lower cover and the oil pan seal. The factory uses RTV sealant and you can leave the oil pan on. I don't own an engine hoist to lift the engine for oil pan removal.

I don't believe original owner had the oil pan removed ever so, I should be in good shape there.
