Episode #14 Replacing the Timing Chain on a Ka24de S14 Nissan 240sx.

Timing Chain replacement on my Ka24de 1995 Nissan 240sx. This is my first time doing the timing chain on the DOHC K motor. It really wasn't that hard. I came down with a bad cold and that slowed my progress down. But now I'm back on it and there is much more to come!

Nothing says thank you like money. My timing chain went crazy yesterday. I have had two mechanics quote $3,500 to $4,000 dollars to replace the head. I love my little 2000 Frontier. With your help I believe I can do this now.😀

Primer2tone Garage if it makes the little knocking sound is it just the tensioner thats what i got told i just need a new tensioner because its just a litlle knocking sound

When you change yours, examine the tensioner closely. It has a small oil journal that lubricates the spring inside the tensioner. If there is a lot of gunk or the spring is broken, you may have an even bigger problem. But good luck. Sorry for the late reply, for some reason I didn't get notification for your comments.

After turning crank pulley on TDC. Gold marking n chain doesn't seem to match on sprocket anymore. Is this normal every time turning crank pulley CW?

so for the timin chain cover and the oil pan you used the " gasket maker?".. How has it hold up after all?? any leaks at all or problems?? did you later on actually put on a gasket ??. I kinda came to a point where I bought a motor owner claims it didnt leak nothing but the whole front its cover in gunk and oil just like yours was.. I washed it all off but before droppin the motor in my s14 I might do what you did since I see it will be way more easier....

I've only put about 1,400 miles on the car since the timing cover was sealed. No leaks so far. And I've beat up on it in two drift events. No leaks as of yet. If you go the gasket maker route use Honda bond. That stuff is the bee's knees.

Question, I moved my crankshaft in reverse and forth to adjust to put in new crank bearings. And I realised I ended up with a out of timing on my KA. Do I do these process just to put back on timing? Its looks like I would have too. Just needed help a quick help guide. Message back soon thanks.

I imagine you removed the timing set to install new crank bearings. Set cylinder 1 to top dead center and make sure both cams first lobes narrow points are facing outward from each other when you reinstall the the chains. Also, the chain should be a specific amount of links from the crank gear marks to the idler marks and the cams chain has a specific number of links from the idler to the exhaust cam sprocket. I’m sorry, I can’t remember how many it should be. I’m sure you’ll find it on google. I hope that helps.

dani martinez The chain's have painted links that let you know where they should line up when you're at tdc.
