Episode 16 Removing and Installing a Stuffed Turbo in a Genesis Coupe

In this video I take you through the steps of removing my stock BK2 Genesis turbo and reinstalling a modified BK2 turbo from Turbo Parts Canada.

Product Details:
The Genesis BK2 has a great responsive turbo from factory. It hosts a twin scroll housing for great spool, but it lacks top end power. We now offer a massive 68mm upgrade that should send you close to 400whp with race fuel and 350-375whp with pump gas and supporting upgrades.
We only install upgraded bearings to ensure your turbo gets the proper oiling under high boost. The OEM bearings are single feed which are meant for stock boost. When upping the boost pressure you need to increase the amount of oil at the thrust bearing to ensure optimal performance under these conditions.
The upgraded turbo includes a new billet compressor wheel, quick spool 9 blade turbine wheel, new internal seals, new upgraded bearings and high-speed VSR balancing.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD NOT INCLUDED. SINCE THERE IS NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WE DO NOT INCLUDE IT. THIS MAKES THE INSTALL EASIER.
Exhaust gaskets, studs, nuts as well as any electronics are NOT included in the price of the turbo

just wondering if it was ok to drive without a tune with the new turbo

I was told to not go into full boost or drive it hard until I got retuned. I definitely don’t want to compromise anything as my car is running good at the moment. So I’ll just be driving it safely to the dyno when the snow melts 😊 Just think that you’ll be forcing a lot more air into the engine now with the new turbo, you don’t want to take a chance of running really lean and causing any damage. I’d just be safe and plan to retune after the install.

@@alphagenperformance great video!! Your going to love the power bro! I hit 379whp/320wtq on E85 with the stuffed turbo so I think for sure you’ll surpass that 320whp mark 💪🏽. Just to give you a peice of mind after the turbo break in period that 3point8performance recommended i daily drove the genny and even went on a road trip to Vegas with it untuned lmao. She ran great just made sure to keep an eye on the afr. But I don’t blame you, better safe than sorry!

@@henryrodriguezjr what did they recommend for the turbo break in period? I know I’ll be getting my boost reduced with a new tune until we’re ready to hit the dyno. But I wasn’t aware of a break in period, so that’s good to know 😊

Did you have to readjust the waste gate after installing the new turbo

Nope, not at all. Just leave the wastegate rod the way it is. It goes back on the same way as it was before as it’s still the stock frame turbo, just different internals and larger inlet. Hope that helps!

No, you’d need to get a custom tune with any aftermarket or modified turbo.

How many hours did it take you to remove the old turbo and swap in the new one?

I took a lot of breaks because it was cold in my garage. But me taking my sweet time, I’d probably say 3-4 hours maybe if I worked straight through? It wasn’t too bad once you started pulling lines off and draining fluids. It was my first time doing this so I wanted to make sure I was doing everything properly and not forgetting any steps! Do you think running the alphaspeed canned tune with a stuffed turbo is good/safe?

No, you’ll need a custom tune as the ecu won’t adjust enough for the extra flow from the stuffed turbo. You’ll end up running lean under boost probably without retune.

Have you noticed a huge difference between a stock turbo on a tune and a stuffed turbo with the tune? Is it a night & day difference. Have been contemplating about going this route or just saving up for a big turbo swap + the necessary bolt ons.

I haven’t tuned it yet. The car is currently still in the garage waiting to come out from winter! But now that’s it’s warmer and spring is around the corner, I’m hoping to have it on the dyno for April! Stay Tuned as I’ll film the results then!
