The Cure - anyone not named Robert Smith White Stripes - Meg White Big Black - Roland (the drum machine) Iron Maiden - Janick Gers (that was easy, you still have the better guitarists)

I am now wondering who the most difficult member of the VC is? I have to say that this is an intriguing idea for a tag but I'd really have to think about this because I am not even sure who my top 5 favourite bands are. I have never bothered to figure that out. I think I know one band. No singers in your list!
@AisForAliceBisForBob2 күн бұрын
You're more difficult, I'm more evil. I'll give you a heads start, I'm guessing the Smiths have to be one of your top 5. I'm guessing no singers because you have to like or at least tolerate the voice of the band to really like them. Ex: I like Rush, but will never love them due to Geddy's voice.
@dr.s.2 күн бұрын
That's one mean question. For Mule, I think, I could get rid of Danny, the keyboard player, cause they already worked well as a trio. The Allman Brothers Band is more difficult, of the final lineup, I would go without Marc because they already had two drummers. For the Dave Matthews Band, I would pick Boyd Tinsley on the violin because they did kick him out, and the band didn't implode. For Pink Floyd, I would pick Roger Waters, at least as a performer he was just the second best bass player in the band. For Zepplin, I can't name one.

Hey Doc! I would have to keep Rog for his songwriting, so it would be goodbye to Nick Mason. Thanks!

Hey Steve. wow, that is a truly original idea, which would/will be a real headache difficult to solve for me. Since my passion for music is not just limited to listening to some records, but also seeking to penetrate the work of the ''guys that played on the record'' by reading books, watching documentaries that give me an understanding of the artist's life and times, (and I think you and I are much alike), the big picture often reveals that some bands/artists were able to benefit from a mix of technical, artistic and managerial expertise provided by a or several member(s) of the band's entourage whose name does not always appear on the credits. And conversely, certain immediate ''family'' members of the artists sometimes make unhelpful or negative contributions which the band could very easily do without. If the rules of the game allow to extend to the close entourage, I guess it could be a little easier 🙂, Cheers, FVA (French guy trying to negotiate 😂)
@AisForAliceBisForBobКүн бұрын
Hey FVA! Yes, I am reading a book on Procol Harum right now. Your response is very well written and said. So many factors come into play (be it fair or not) when determining an artists success or failure. Ken Hensley released a biographical album in 2006 called "Blood on the Highway." It focuses on the 70's while he was with Uriah Heep, and his departing from the band. Glenn Hughes and John Lawton provide some of the vocals. Please take a listen and let me know what you think of it. Cheers!
@frenchvinyladdictКүн бұрын
@@AisForAliceBisForBob Ok, I will, thanks for the advice, Steve. Sounds interesting,. Without being a big fan of Uriah Heep, I know some anecdotes about the history of the band such as the one when Gary Thain was blackballed from the band unfairly following his electrical accident.
@n0s0luti0nКүн бұрын
This is a diabolical thread. You truly are evil! 😁 I have to think about this because many of my favorite "bands" are basically one main artist and side men which isn't fair. Cheers Steve!

@@AisForAliceBisForBob January 1981, Sophia Gardens Pavilion in Cardiff, Heaven and Hell Tour. I went with my girlfriend at the time who was a massive Sabbath fan (probably still is). We got in and after a half hour or so noticed the place was very full, uncomfortably so. But we were near the front so thought nothing of it. Support band (A II Z) come on. Halfway through their second song, a guy taps the drummer on the shoulder and gives him the thumb across the throat (stop playing) sign which they eventually do after some confusion. We the start hearing a right old commotion, a window smashes and people start shimmying down curtains onto the floor (a friend of mine was one of them!). The promoter then comes on stage, and explains Sabbath will be on shortly (well before the expected time). Anyway, they play the show and we start hearing rumours that there was a riot outside as people couldn't get in, and Sabbath agreed to play two sets in one night. We tried to hide in the toilets to see the second show as well but were found and kicked out! Speaking to a police officer outside (among what resembled a full scale riot scene), it transpired the promoter sold almost double the number of tickets for the venue, and to avoid absolute bedlam Sabbath did the second show!! We had tickets to see them at the same venue the following year, but the roof caved in after the heaviest snowfall in years and it was cancelled! We were also supposed to see them at a festival with Motörhead in August 1981 (The Heavy Metal Holocaust it was called) with Triumph, Riot, Frank Marino and others also on the bill, but they pulled out and Ozzy played there instead (with Randy Rhoads!) so we saw him instead! And that's my Black Sabbath live experience story! When I was a pup my GF and I travelled all over the UK to see bands - getting in scrapes, getting lost, not getting home! All the things I'd have not allowed Bethan to do! The university of life 🙂

You read my mind....Bill Ward!! Roland! Keith Moon! Meg White! What have you & everyone in the comments got against drummers Steve! None of the bands these drummers were in were better after they were gone. The Who were shit after Keith. Sabs did one decent record with Appice but it was all downhill after that. Roland (the drum machine) was the distinctive sound that made Big Black stand out amongst the other punks & Jack White hasn't done anything that comes anywhere near The White Stripes raw garage blues punk without Meg. My synopsis: Keep the drummers. Kick out everyone else (especially bass players), but for god's sake no drum solos! PS Alice Cooper is the weak link in the AC band. He's not a great singer or front man & he mainly relies on props. They all get the boot and Vincent never made a record as good. All those soppy over produced strings & then he tried New Wave (badly) & finally became cookie cutter hair metal. He was a follower of genre. With the band they were leading the way. Obviously with two long comments you've stirred something up deep inside of me 😂
@AisForAliceBisForBobКүн бұрын
Hey Ben! Alice is the band, it says so right in the name. After he broke up the original group the other members formed Billion Dollar Babies, and did one horrible album "Battle Axe" in 1977. It was so bad they didn't get to make another one, and that was when record companies gave you 3 chances to make it or break it. Phil Collins and Don Henley were never going to have success as solo artists by playing drums, they had to get out front and sing to obtain that status. Not to fret, you are still my favorite drummer in the VC. Cheers!
@benrankins4446Күн бұрын
@ Alice is one of the luckiest men alive to make it with looks like that & a voice like that. He had “the” band & there’s nothing he did afterwards that wasn’t smoked by the Alice Cooper band. I say this as a fan & owner of many Coop albums. Also Phil & Don may have got bigger but they weren’t better than what they came from. It’s like McDonalds. It’s huge but no one’s claiming it’s good for you. Except maybe McDonalds 😂
