Hello! For this year I have decided to focus on knitting from my stash as much as possible. I also want to be more thoughtful on my knitting purchases. So far I have made several dish cloths with cotton yarn in my stash for gifting and I am presently knitting a Sophie Scarf with a partial skein of yarn from my stash. I'm really enjoying working on my goals!

Hi Kay, I love the motto you shared: "Knit What Makes You Happy." Knitting does make me happy. I love the peace it brings. Doing a bunch of knitting management does not make me happy. I'm retired now and spent pretty much a lifetime of time managment for both professional and personal life and now I'm retired and doing the things I love and on the top of that list is knitting and sewing. I don't think stressing or putting pressure on myself over my favorite hobby knitting will bring fulfillment much less add to the enjoyment and reward I get from my hobby. If I don't get a new sweater done for Stitches West in March (no I'm not knitting the ranunculas sweater like everyone else) oh well I'm not going to cry a river......SNAP. move on and just keep going. Life happens. Thank you for reinforcing my viewpoint of not letting my knitting become weighed down with encomberment!!! But I applaud anyone else who wants to closely monitor their activities and track details- if that helps then go for it!!!!! Love your vlogcast- keep em coming! -Carrie

"Knit what makes you happy" is really the best idea. The end of last year was tough, so I think that doing things that brings us joy is so important. This year I wanna focus on my stash, but only if I have the right project in mind for it. I also have a "special WIP" so I am gonna knit all the baby things 😄

My goal for “Knit What Makes Me Happy 2023” is to make time for knitting everyday. Gift knitting gives me great joy, so I want to get those gifts made WAY ahead of time! I am so excited to have cast on a year long MAL blanket. Two rows a day in garter stitch, almost the same stitch count as your temperature blanket, 287 stitches. Also, my daughter in law has asked for a special knit Christmas stocking, reminiscent of the one she once had as a little girl, for our little granddaughter. Praying for a full recovery for Wyatt. We have three sons, who have all been successfully released into the wild!

@@wdbreezy I'm a new sweater knitter as well and I just cast on my first sweater at the beginning of the year. So take my recommendation with a grain salt since i'm also a newbie, but I've been doing The Novice Cardigan by PetiteKnit and it's been going pretty well! It's literally designed for beginners (hence the name) and there are KZbin tutorials for every new or garment-focused technique. The tutorials aren't in English but the subtitles are and so far i haven't had issues understanding them. I'm only just about to finish the yoke so can't properly review the whole pattern but so far so good and I've read ahead and it seems fairly simple. It does leave out specific things that seem to be a common part of making sweaters slightly better (like doing short rows at the back to improve fit or picking up stitches for the ribbed collar after the sweater is done to prevent stretching out) and this is likely intended to keep the pattern as simple and beginner friendly as possible. I think it's a good idea to tackle the absolute basics of sweater construction before going into those kinds of improvements, but if this is a turn off keep it in mind. For a free pattern, the flax sweater (and flax light) by tincanknits is also designed for beginners. It has several associated blogposts with info for beginners as well, so i think that's a good option if you want a pullover instead of a cardigan (Petiteknit also has a Novice Sweater that is a pullover). And lastly Brooklyn Tweed have a First Raglan Sweater pattern that is also designed for beginners. All of these are top down sweaters since that's my personal preference at least so far. The great thing about top down sweaters is that you can try them on as you go, which I think is helpful for beginners!

I've been knitting off and on for 50 years. Last year was the first year I knit a sweater for myself or anybody. You tube really takes the scary out of it cause you can look up stitch tutorials and get all kinds of help. There are so many patterns to try and so little time. Good luck!

Hi Kay, I agree, you’ve got to knit or crochet whatever makes you happy….in the beginning of January, I made a list of all the knitting projects I want to make. I started a new pullover but the yarn is killing my hands…I’ve been forcing myself to continue, no fun and I’m struggling. I’ve got to set it aside, the color is beautiful but knitting should bring you joy, right! I’m so sorry to hear about Wyatt, I’m wishing him a speedy recovery!

I am also going to knit what makes me happy in 2023. We have a new puppy - Charlie, a cockapoo - so my knitting time is currently limited. I am in several knitting groups so that is where most of my knitting gets done. A local yarn shop recently opened so one of my 2023 goals is to support them with my yarn purchases rather than just shopping online.

My knitting goal for 2023 is also to knit what makes me happy. When I recapped 2022 I realized I didn't knit as much as the previous year. But after thinking about it knew why. I learned to spin...like really spin nice yarn and I also have been weaving on my loom again. All fiber related stuff and all bring me joy. So I will keep on with that as well. So far I did finish one pair of socks for the year and on New Year's Day cast on a pair and am using my Yarnable yarn charm on them. So hear's to making all the things that bring us joy!

I like your motto... knit what makes you happy. This year I will be going through my stash and getting rid of the yarn that does not make me happy. The yarn that would be a task to knit... the yarn that I keep saying "you bought it, you have to use it" I will pass it on to someone who it will make happy.... Then both of us are happy.

Healing wishes to Wyatt! I, too, am stitching a temperature project for the 3rd year. First time was a scarf using Quince and Co yarn, the second was a granny strip project with worsted weight yarn that ended up being long enough after 3 months, and now I am cross stitching a temperature tree. The tree and branches are all stitched so everyday I just have to stitch on a small leaf. So happy to see you on KZbin again!

2023 knitting plan: Always. Projects I have always wanted to make but got sidetracked by test, sample, trend, kal, or content knitting. I have SO many patterns I bought because I absolutely loved them, yet haven't made. Projects I always wanted to knit. This doesn't mean I can't change my mind and knit a new release, if I love it; but I am being guided by the selection of always. Always wanted to, or have always loved this knit and want to do it again.

Wyatt will heal ❤. Stephanie had the same thought that this year she’s going to knit what she feels like, not pressure herself to finish something for someone because technically, nobody is going to be hurt and the world keeps going. This year I plan to knit two pair of socks per month, each with a different heel. So far I’ve found 15 heels😊

My knitting plans for the year include trying not to be tempted by new to me patterns, I buy them and often forget about them. I do have my Christmas gift list started I try and knit one a month, typically a hat, mittens maybe socks. I write down names on folder select patterns then determine what yarn I have on hand and what is needed. Happy knitting 🧶

Funnily enough, our new years plans for 2023 are very similar! I have a very bad habit of focusing on and rushing towards the end product in everything I do. This past year I grew distant from my family chasing after completionism. This year I'm focusing on my family and focusing on whatever makes me happy instead of doing things just because I know others want them. This ranges from being social to working on specific hobbies and tasks, etc. This year it's what I feel like without the self-imposed pressure and I'm already feeling leaps and bounds better than I did last year.

My 2023 goal is to get my new yarn/craft room set up and organized. I would also like to learn how to dye yarn and “knit things that make me happy”. I think you picked a wonderful goal!

My knitting and crochet goals are simple: make more. I had a shoulder/back issue that's mostly resolved, so I can knit and crochet more now than I could last year. So I want to carefully move forward (no re-injuries!).

This year I am hoping to focus on more sock knitting. I would like to work on several Christmas socks to give to my four daughters and sons-in-law for Christmas. I usually do just plain vanilla socks but this year I would like to venture out with different patterns and techniques! Something tells me I have discovered the perfect podcast to assist me in that goal!

This year I plan to knit what makes myself and others happy. I live in FL, but most of my family is back in WV. I don’t have as much need for warm knits like they do in the mountains, so I plan to knit all of them a pair of socks…all 43 of ‘em! It’s a big chore, but I love them all so much and want to keep their feet warm and hearts happy! I’ll say a prayer for Wyatt and your family. ❤ My sweet babies are 3 and 4 and I’d do anything for them. I’m sure you wish it was your collar bone instead of his. 😢 You’re a great momma!

I main yarny plan is to continue to use more yarn than I buy. I am running out of space to store things, so this is a good way for me to manage that without having a hard "ban on buying". I have a couple old wips that I really want to see finished as well.

Hi Kay, wishing a complete recovery for Wyatt and peace for you as you go through this health journey with him. I plan to knit my first sweater this year and finish the socks I have on the needles and make a few of the others in my queue. I am also making a granny shawl like the one you are making with one of you advents for my chair in my craft room. I am using yarn from my Row 1 subscription and holding a dove gray yarn with it. So far I have two months on it and it is beautiful. I can’t wait for the next package to arrive so I can add it. Thanks for the idea.

Hi Kay, it's a great motto "Knit what makes you happy". I think this is my reason for having a few wips, that way if something isn't making me happy I can switch to a different project. My plan for 2023 is to knit more garments and less shawls, maybe socks will become a thing this year too. I'm currently knitting the Summer Sorrel by Wool & Pine

Great episode! Knitting what makes us happy is what it's all about. I don't have definite plans for the year, but I do want to hunt for a simple pullover pattern to knit that I can just wear like I would wear a sweatshirt. So many of my knits sit in a drawer, waiting for a "good enough" occasion to wear them. I want to enjoy and use the items a knit more this year. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to win a prize. Best wishes for your son's full recovery!

I’m sorry about Wyatt’s injury! Sending you and him lots of comforting thoughts and prayers and prayers for quick healing! I love your motto/plan of knitting what makes you happy this year! I too feel like I have to finish something even though I’m not enjoying it sometimes. My plans/goals for knitting this year is to make a few things for myself. I’ve always wanted to knit a sweater/cardigan. I haven’t made very many socks for myself. I also want to do mini skein/scrappy projects this year too. If I can find a way to get more minis for scrappy projects. I also maybe want to dabble in pattern writing. I have a pattern for an afghan that I’m working up and would love to release one day.

My 2023 goal is to hopefully finish some long standing wips and knit things that I enjoy. I would also like to reduce some of my stash and use yarn I bought because I loved it.

I love knitting for happiness! I am trying to work through more stash and knit projects that take a little more time, like a big cabled jacket, instead of just blowing through yarn for yoke sweaters. Also trying to use my handspun more often!

Was glad to catch up with you after the holidays. Hope a quick recovery for Wyatt. I had my first broken bone (at age 82) last summer and hated the waiting for it to heal but was glad I didn't need surgery. For the coming year I hope to get a lot of old projects finished off and new projects to use stash yarn. Also going to try and keep a yarn diary to "inspire" me. While watching you I did sew up the hat for my son-in-law's Christmas present.

Wow!! What a end to the year. I'm glad he is feeling better and able to do a little of what brings him joy. My 2023 knitting plans are knit my first sweater for myself(although this has been a mountain itself due to all the beautiful sweater patterns) and bust a little stash with making charity hats for Winter 2023.

My knitting plan for the year is to try and make 52 things. I am telling myself that I am holding this plan loosely so I don't stress about it and so it is still fun. Thank goodness I have lots of babies coming in my life this year so I can make some quick hats!

I always get so excited when there is a new podcast up!! This one was so enjoyable and felt like a refresh for the new year! My knitting plans for this year include finishing up old projects that have been lingering (some for a few years now... yes, years...) and knitting at least one pair of socks each month!

Hi Kay, I'm a new knitter and plan to work on my first pair of socks using your Vanilla Sock pattern and tutorial. Hope to get one done for each of my family members if this first one goes well. I am enjoying your content and would love to see all your crafts. I'm a multi crafter too, sewing and cross stitch being my other love! Stay well, and thank you for your detailed tutorials. Can't wait to get more experience for the new pattern you have coming out...love it.
