Another great video Mr. Rome. My experience as of yet has been mostly smaller inland waterways in the Midwest of the US however retirement "Intentions" are to spend a month of every year in the Bahamas. Although geographically the other side of the US, I'm confident the principals in this video apply to my intended cruising grounds. Your comments about finding that correct weather window are echoed by many of the other experienced captains I've researched in my learning experience. I'm quickly determining, weather is everything in preparing for an enjoyable, safe passage no matter where your cruising waters may be. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and I look forward to your future videos.

Much appreciated Darren. Most people I know love cruising in the Bahamas. I have cruised there since the late 1980's on our sailboat. Shallow draft, good air conditioning and not having ANY wind apposing the Gulf Stream were my takeaways. Thank you again for your kind words and I know you'll enjoy those cruising waters.............Cliff

Hi Jim. I really appreciate your comments and support, it's a great shot in the arm for Part II of Episode 2 on Vessel Preparedness (which, by definition, is granular in nature, and likely to overwhelm those not suffering from OCD). Thanks again...........Cliff

Just simply the best. Photography, content, pace and detail is best I’ve encountered. Currently lying Roche and planning to first cruise to AK once border opens so we can enjoy what Canada has to offer.

We are up in Prince William Sound and hoping the Canadian Border opens so we can enjoy a leisurely return back to Roche Hbr in Sept/Oct. Next episode on Vessel Preparedness is already in-the-works and will hopefully be out in early July. Thank you Chuck for the positive feedback............Cliff

A good friend of mine has his boat docked 4 slips away from Osis at CYC. Being that I'm down there most weekends across the way at DRYC I always make a point of walking to Osis and daydreaming. I came across your VLog by accident and very happy I did. I will be spending many hours watching and maybe at some point while I"m down in the marina and your there I can stop by and say hi. Smooth Seas

Thank you for your note. OASIS up in Alaska and, as of now, is planning to stay in the Northwest. I'm not sure if you were able to catch Bruce Kessler's presentation at DRYC a couple of months ago where he gave a talk on Ep. 1? I hope to have another episode out in about a month (with a lot less of "me" and lot more pictures and videos of British Columbia and Alaska). Thanks again for writing.....Cliff

hello clifford, thank you for a terrific series. albeit im only part way thru. Q:/comments: weather routing and “tenable seas” calculation. (wave height to wave length) 1) in my part of the world we use metric, so i realise the formula/guidelines you present need to be modified for metric system. 2) in my part of the world (which i believe is representative of many parts) the wave bouy data that is published presents - zero crossing period (Tz) seconds - peak energy period (Tp?) seconds - signifigant wave height (Hs) meters - maximum wave height (Hm?) meters To thus apply this data against your formula, am i correct in assuming it would be ratio = Tz/Hs and of course adjusting the “allowable ratio” (for both head and following seas) for metric units.
@AnAchievableDream
@AnAchievableDream 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Greg, thank you for reaching out. The formula should remain the same regardless of the unit of measure. (Of course, your "pain" threshold would have to be adjusted accordingly). We are just in the process of getting underway, so sorry for the short reply, but I wanted to get back to you..............Cliff

Nadine - Wolf of Wall Streets boat !!! He tells all about this storm in his book if same name and the movie with DiCaprio shows a scene depicting this event . The boat was named after his wife Nadine Belfort!! Wolf of Wall Street is Jordan Belfort , he truly believed everyone on the boat was going to die - the Italian Coast Guard saved their lives !!!

In Episode 2 Part 1 Time:24:00, you show a graph of wave height to wave length. I find most forecasts list wave period and height. How or where do you get this information? Thanks,
@AnAchievableDream
@AnAchievableDream 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob. I prepared that graph for illustrative purposes (in case the viewer was unfamiliar with the terms or had trouble visualizing what I was describing). Most sites provide Average/Peak wave height; wave direction and wave period relative to time. Sorry for any confusion.

Is Capt. Rome still around? Here in Marina Del Rey? I have learned so much from this series and would absolutely love to learn more under his tutelage as a deck hand. If anyone knows how best to get in touch with him please let me know. Thank you and fair winds.

We're currently up in Washington State getting ready to head to British Columbia for the summer. We have had the same crew for +/-25 years. There are plenty of capable and knowlegable captain's on the water who would be only too pleased to have a dedicated deckhand willing to help and to learn.

@@AnAchievableDream is there a website or repository of sorts that I could preview? Any recommendations or leads would be so incredibly helpful. I am 15 minutes from the Marina often on the water in my 17 ft runabout and in the market for a 40-50 liveaboard. Any guidance in improving my seamanship would be greatly appreciated. Please travel safely with family and fair winds...
@AnAchievableDream
@AnAchievableDream 2 жыл бұрын
URL: kzbin.info (such that it is...). In terms of improving your seamanship, my initial thoughts are (1) to get as much time on the water as possible, (2) to work on a "good" boat (that is moving), and (3) with owners/crew that are knowledgeable and disciplined. The East Coast of the US (ie. FL) is ground zero for these jobs. Best of luck........Cliff
