Team toe up. I never know how long I am going to love a pattern, and toe up lets me quit with a shortie sock if I get bored. I love that you included the Big Twist yarn. Acrylic yarn lets me knit more since it's so much more affordable.

I’m a dedicated toe up sock knitter. I don’t like starting with ribbing, and I love being able to change my mind about the sock as I go. I can decide I’m done and am only going to do shortie socks if I want, or I can keep knitting and use up every inch of my yarn. I always knit socks using two circular needles.

Always cuff down. When my Mother was alive, I tried toe up, but she didn’t like the way they fit her. She passed in January of 2021, but I still here her voice every time I start a new pair, “Cuff down, right, because the other way just doesn’t make me as happy”.

I have recently converted to two at a time toe up!! I particularly like this because I am loving 50 gram skeins too! I do the toes and heels in bare yarn and then can knit up every drop of my 50 grams skein and finish off with a pop of color in bare to finish it off! Makes for perfect socks for me!

I love seeing all your socks and you always light up talking about your making. I love it. Thankyou!! I am also a CUFF DOWN sock knitter on 9" circulars. My husband recently told me he thought he had enough socks for a while. I replied 'NO WAY' you will never have enough socks from me. He is very knit worthy as he only wears my hand knit socks now. I am very happy to say one of my sons got married and so I have finally have a daughter (daughter in law) to knit socks for. After having 4 boys it is nice to have another girl around. SOCK KNITTING IS MY HAPPY PLACE I also learnt to crochet first and then taught myself to knit socks for my first ever knitting project.

I used to exclusively knit taat toe up (magic loop) bc I wanted nothing to do with Kitchener stitch. I realized I was missing out on fun patterns and I also went on a quest to try a number of heel patterns. These days I’m usually knitting a pair cuff down at the same time on two separate needles (magic loop). I realized those few Kitchener stitches aren’t so laborious. Thx for all your sock wisdom.

If I have plenty of yarn I'd always choose top/cuff-down most of the time on a small circular needle. I find it so relaxing and easy, by now I have my personal pattern memorized and can just grab my project and leave the house etc.. But if I'm working with a limited amount of yarn or want to use up all of it, I go with bottom/toe-up and also two-at-a-time on magic loop by pulling from the inside and outside of my yarn cake. Requires to manage the tangle situation, but in doing so I can use up every last inch of my yarn and I love that. 🧶

I started socks cuff down and then transitioned to toe up for years, but the past two years or so I've fallen back in love with cuff down and it's all I knit now. I just love the magic of a heel turn and the sturdiness of the slip stitch heel flap in a cuff down sock. Not that you can't do those things with toe up, but they just don't hit the same way.

I typically knit my socks toe-up, but I've also knit a lot of cuff-down. Toe-up with a Fleegle Heel TAAT is my go-to method, because I get a great fit for the heel, and never have to stress out about leaving enough yarn for the foot at the (and use up as much as possible).

I knit cuff down socks for me, but toe up for my kids. I frequently use Felici for their socks because they love them, but they also like longer socks with matching stripes, so I go toe up to use as much of the yarn as possible. I like shorter socks and usually use hand dyed yarn for my socks, so cuff down works just fine for me.

My go-to sock recipe is cuff down. I have knit toe up a few times and they have their place - I did toe up in order to use up every bit of a yarn I wanted to use up. They turned out great! I actually enjoyed the process, but there is something about the fiddly cast on and bind off that prevents me from doing toe up more often.

Cracking up at your comments about toe-up. I am the same way! Back in the day, like a decade ago, I would knit toe up mixed in with cuff down like it was nothing. Now, I am so stuck in my ways that even if I have a questionable amount of yarn, I'd rather play yarn chicken and knit a pair of socks cuff-down than mess with toe-up pattern. I guess we just like what we like ;)

Cuff down on 9 inch circulars. That’s how I learned from you and I’m sticking to it. 🥰

Oh my gracious that hippo bag got me all kinds of crazy. I LOVE it. I am so far a cuff down girl. I cast on my first toe up socks recently for my daughter because she doesn’t like the feel of Kitchener stitch. I might finish them 😳. They are waiting to be tinked/frogged back currently.

I generally stick to cuff-down with a heel flap and gusset! I’m looking forward to your ‘secret’ cast on!😊

I am a cuff down girl for sure. I have made one pair of toe up and they fit fine, but I had to follow the pattern for them, so I always end up resorting to cuff down since I have those memorized! Happy belated birthday.

Ironically, I'm a cuff down knitter BUT as I was watching this... I am knitting a toe up sock :P Its the Thursday Sock by s.knits and it has a heel flap! I was curious what the construction was like :)

Your finished socks look so good. 😄 I love all your project bags too, you have inspired me to sew myself some. I need a bag for every project now, haha. 😊
