Just on the side of caution... I noticed rust on your tank. This can lead to a leak in the future and is usually monitored by the Gas supply company. They might red tag it in the near future unless you paint it. If it has obvious pits of the surface that they can feel, it will be failed and they will not fill it for liability reasons. I just had mine red tagged and had to get another tank. This info is coming from a Deputy Fire Marshal and a retired fire inspector. I wish you luck and stay safe out there all....

shut off valve on the second stage regulator needs to be on the other side of the regulator.
@Adam-qe9br3 жыл бұрын
Why?
@gilbertrobles13743 жыл бұрын
My guess is because if regulator busts or leaks you can cut off the supply from the inbound side.

What size black iron pipe did you use? For your main run going to house
@CountryViewAcres4 жыл бұрын
3/4"

@@CountryViewAcres so the main trunk is 3/4" and then does it drop in size from the main trunk to the individual items that require propane? Like 1/2"?? Appreciate any response

Nice bro!! how often does that tank need to be tested for safety, here in my country if they are not tested they are skipped after 5 years and it costs the same to test as a ne tank.

Hi there---I am trying to find another propane tank because my metal plate on the tank came off and the propane companies will not fill a tank without it attached. I did not see the plate on your tank....is it missing? If so, do you not have a problem with getting it filled? This is all really frustrating. I know they can test a tank to check if it is leaking or not. If it doesn't leak, it looks like they would fill it. If anyone has any thoughts or comments on my problem, I would appreciate your input. Jesus bless.

If you start from scratch would you heat the house with propane instead of heat pump? What’s your reasoning for heat pump as the default, and then only propane kicks in? Thanks for shsring
@CountryViewAcres4 жыл бұрын
I would leave the way I have it. The heat pump is cheaper to run. But it only works good till around 32 degree Fahrenheit outside, then it looses the ability to heat efficiently. Thats why propane is secondary. My electric bill is only about $100 to $125 a month all year round. This propane tank was just filled up for the first time since then. So it lasted 2.5 years.

Since it’s a copper line, do you not need a tracer wire?
@gilbertrobles13743 жыл бұрын
What is tracer wire?
@matthewray80433 жыл бұрын
Tracer wire is used to located the line in the future but since it is copper you don’t need one

I assume you will be running a propane line for your outdoor kitchen and another for your future woodshop/garage? Just found your channel a few days ago and subscribed the first day. Binge watching your episodes in preparation for my homestead build this year. Great information and presentation. Thank you for sharing your failures along with your successes.

Silas Bland, I actually have another propane tank, not sure if I will use it, or run a line from this one. But it will be a while till I get a garage built.

I just had it filled up for the first time since that video was filmed. We were down to about 10%, they filled it back up to 75% so about 380 gallons in 2 and half years.

Any particular reason you didn't go with a propane dryer?
@CountryViewAcres6 жыл бұрын
Ryan Weaver, the propane appliances were based off what I would need during a power outage. And my small generator will run the On-demand water heater and the furnace. I can let the laundry build up for a few days, Till the power comes back on. I guess I never considered a propane dryer.

Could fit a heat pump to take heat from the lake to heat the house.

If the tractor wont make it out in the soft dirt. How will the truck that weighs 10 time as much make it out to fill it. And unless things have changed since I studied refrigeration, heat pumps work well down to about 40 so you better figure in a little more propane for your heating.
@CountryViewAcres6 жыл бұрын
When they come to fill it up, they will pull hose from the truck to fill it up. The driveway is only about 50 to 75 feet away.

I have a Rheem 3 1/2 ton heat pump and it works well below 32 with out kicking in the heat strips, although the colder it is the longer it will run. It is still cheaper to run than resistance heating. It is 12 years old now. I also installed a 500 gallon propane tank for backup heat with a 30,000 btu infrared heater. I used a new dual stage regulator at the tank. It will provide over 500,000 btu's. I buy propane July or August when my propane company has their summer sale and save 25-50 cents a gallon. The last I bought was $1.50 a gallon about 3 years ago. When it full it has 400 gallons and will run a long time.
