Thanks for sharing Jay! Looking forward to the 308 gas sbr host review. How long does it take you to test and publish these reports per can? I don't think many appreciate the amount of time and analysis that go these reports.
@TheJaySituation2 ай бұрын
@@cleverman86 thanks for listening! It takes quite a long time to test, perform QA/QC, analysis, and then draft the analytical test report(s). Then of course you have publication, podcast technical discussion, etc. It is a substantial amount of effort, and we do believe it is necessary, because without a thorough examination of each system, the user could potentially be misled about true performance. PEW was started to combat that. As long as we're around, the consumer will always have an ally in the fight against silencer performance misinformation. Thanks again for your interest in the research!

Would you say this or the ODB would be better for a 16" AR10. The ODB while ratde for 762 Nato but seems to be designed for the 7.62x39. Just curious if there is that much difference other than overall length.
@TheJaySituationАй бұрын
@@oliverclare8143 since we haven't performed that specific testing, I can only give you some general information: The DD does have a higher flow rate, so it is possible that ejection port blast will be somewhat less than with the ODB on the same weapon. However, the early time flow rate of the ODB is still high. We have used the inconel ODB on the 13" SCAR 17 with good results. The ODB will exhibit a higher degree of signature suppression overall, but is longer and heavier. As far as "purpose built" for 7.62 NATO semiautos, that's the DD. We have not yet trialed the DD on the SCAR, but we do estimate it will do well compared to something like a SOCOM762-MINI2.
@oliverclare8143Ай бұрын
@@TheJaySituation awesome, thanks for the information. I was ready to pull the trigger on the ODB and then it was out of stock. Then it came back in stock and I saw the DD was released, which complicates things. It definitely gets overwhelming when trying to buy your first silencer when there are so many options and models, not to mention things like costs and paperwork. I have the HK MR762 and based on what you just answered, will probably stick with the ODB. Again, thanks for the information, your knowledge, testing, and willingness to share is top notch.

Jay, ODB on a 6.5 CM gas gun, what would your *estimates*\best guess be on performance and suitability.
@TheJaySituation2 ай бұрын
My best guess would be that it wouldn't be too gassy, but could *potentially* be louder than a larger purpose-built DMR silencer, for example. If your barrel is on the shorter side, and you need the maneuverability, it could be appropriate. But for a 6.5 CM setup... I have a feeling it's more of a long(er) range type use and your barrel probably isn't tooooo short.

@TheJaySituation2 ай бұрын
@@redsquadace why? So you can believe us when we tell you it won't work as well? 😂 I mean probably in the future as an academic exercise, perhaps. I say that because there are some cases that have been examined with high flow rate and subsonic suppression

@@juanthelawnmowerthief1641 I think that's pretty close to its intended use case; it was developed for 12 to 14 inch barrel 7.62 NATO semiauto systems.

Eh, more 7.62 bolt gun users than semi auto, sure. More bolt gun users that want a silencer than semiauto 7.62 users that want a silencer? Not sure on that one. The fudd overlap on the Venn diagram is more of a tangent, so there is that. Soooo, did a certain company out of the Carolinas send you a 7.62 host??

Recently after alot of research on cat. I will never purchase any of their products and my money will be spent on companies who care about back end support if they ever need it. Cat if you’re reading this. You gotta stay in the R&D world and not marketing or handling warranties/making them. Way too many red flags about this company. Especially their website and instagram. On the contrary. Jay your work is invaluable to the community. You are doing something we should have had 10-15 years ago. Imagine where the industry might be now if that was the case.

@@TheJaySituation mainly its the way they portray themselves. We have no face or names to the company, the weird names they give their products, (opinion statement especially here) their warranty process and hearing about prior issues with warranty. I like the fact that they do updates on their KZbin about products and updates however the use of AI every time and the weird title of “Meow” really is a turn off for me and other I have found. These are just my observations from research and personally I hope they turn it around. I love their products and pushing for development of new technology, you can’t argue they are leading innovation. However that is where it ends for what I like about them.
