I like Aron Snyder, second podcast show I'm viewing now. Brings me back to the days of 2117, and I quickly upgraded to 2314's. Great show and alot of info👍🏼

I'm learning so much from these pod cast. I've always shot heavy arrows and broadheads with great results. 500 grn arrows and 125 bhs when I used alum. and 400grn and 125bhs with graphite now and only complaint is sometimes I lose a broadhead in a tree after a complete pass thru on a elk.

this has to be hands down the best pod cast for your normal everday average person hunter, every thing you both cover makes absolute best sence it all boils down to what your most comfortable and what ever set up makes you feel the most confident with. if you dont trust what your working with how are you supposed to get the job done in the most efficient way.

Thanks for de-mystifying some issues for this noob! At least now I have the basics from which to select shafts & broadheads. Subbed & liked. Nice vid!

Great show about equipment, maybe do a "Gritty Bits" on how you like to practice, exercise different shots from different positions?

as a sidenote, if anyone is shooting deep sixs make sure the ferrule on the broadhead is steel.

jaylee brit if you dont understand you shouldn't talk im talking about the way the broadhead works the expand able broad head that I was using was not getting any penitration no matter the distance thus getting results in animals getting away thats why I switched back to the fixed broad head. what good does it do to hit a animal behind the shoulder if does not penitrate. so try to understand before you put your 10 cents in.

This is interesting to me coming from a traditional bowhunting background. Now where you said that you wouldn't use a 700 grain arrow from a compound, there are a fair amount of traditional bowhunters that shoot that out of sub 50# longbows! The general rule amongst the trad community is at least 10 grains of arrow/pound of draw weight; twice of IBO. What this tells me is that the heavier the arrow the more efficient the system. In other words, essentially the heavier of arrow that you use the more power is transmitted from the bow to the animal.

But along with that, why do compound bowhunters rarely talk about FOC? I'm a big believer, my current setup is right at about 28% FOC. To achieve that, you don't want a heavy arrow SHAFT; you want a LIGHT shaft and a really heavy insert and broadhead. Otherwise your arrow might easy be 700 grains by the time you get to 20+% FOC. My current setup is a R/D Toelke Pika 52# longbow firing a 220 grain Victory RIP 400 behind a 315 grain two blade, single bevel broadhead that is screwed into a SS 125 grain insert; that's right, 440 grains up front! 66% of my arrow weight is located where it matters. Total arrow weight is 660 grains, a tad heavier that I like; but I wouldn't hesitate to take any North American Big Game animal with my 52# longbow.

i know this is a year old, but does your, and aron, opinion on mechanical broadheads change for larger game like elk and moose??

I don't know guys when spit fire came out I used them that year I loved the way they grouped but I shot three deer that year the first one hit in the neck at 75 yards it did not pass through left verry little blood second deer hit behind the shoulder at 80 yards didn't leave any blood finally the third deer I shot that year I hit in the neck at 16 yards that one died after 2 more shots at 50 yards I switched back to the thunder head 100 grain and everything I hit with that has died no matter the yards have killed deer from 90 yards to 20 yards all pass through and have been able to tune them like my field points

Gabriel Regalado you have zero right shooting those ranges. if you cant hit a deer behind the shoulder at 20 yards you should not be bow hunting per period.... especially shooting long range....... idiot.... guys like you ruin it for everyone. show some respect. i have nothing against guys shooting animals at 120 yards but they at least hit close to their mark and find their animals....

Great interview. Interesting listening to the bit about mechanicals for Bears. I am hunting black bear for the first time this year and was deciding between the grim reaper and the slick trick...think I'll be going with the GR :)

Stromdiddily I'm glad we could help. For me, using mechanical broad heads on bears is a no-brainer. I'll advocate mechanical for black bear all-day-long. Good luck on your hunt!
