Synchronicity never cease to amaze - was about to type "um.. ackshually", because I'm reading a book about Carthage and Rome in ancient times, but I've only read it to the part which is literally right before that one Jesse was talking about (Lucius Septimus Severus, very interesting persona btw, either Mathas or Jesse would like him, or both). Overall like these kind of episodes, informative and teaching history, the only criticism is that you probably try to make it sound it "hip and easy to digest for kids at home" (may be not on purpose), and it sounds very oversimplified, but again - probably would be "boring" for majority of audience if chilluminati would become historical/educational podcast :)

After this ep and the discussion at the end I'd be interested in an episode on religious syncretism as a concept, maybe with certain fun examples. The one that comes to mind for me always is the Virgin Guadalupe, who is often represented as an indigenous woman and may have been a way for the colonized Nahua to render Catholicism over the top of their existing practice. There's also a tribe who has a parade dressed as Romans and ritually hangs Judas for his betrayal, very fun and interesting to see how belief and practice evolve into new communities

I much prefer Fall and Winter. Spring and Summer depresses me, and I absolutely abhor heat and humidity.

Honestly same. Spring your miserable because of allergies, in summer its hot af and miserable. Autumn is where it's at.

After a couple google searches, it seems like St. Barbara was the patron saint of lightning and Artillerymen. Sounds like SHE was also about that Christian loophole business, so if you venerated her, you didn't need last rites to get into heaven, in case you 'sploded. She's still worshipped by Christian miners today.

There is something amusing about how when talking about the non-Biblical beliefs of the devil's appearance they bring up the similarly non-biblical idea of the devil as a fallen angel. This myth is extraordinarily common and pervasive, but there is only one very vague part of the Bible that connects Lucifer (which is no longer even translated as a name these days and is just written as "morning star", likely meaning Venus) to the devil. And even that rare mention doesn't suggest he was ever an angel. There is one mention of Satan "falling from heaven" but if you equate him with the snake in the garden of Eden (which is also not entirely a clear connection) then that makes sense. Fallen angels do appear in Revelation but briefly and that book is pretty crazy in a lot of other ways. Anyway, none of this is meant as a jab at the guys, it just shows how our beliefs still change and evolve to this day even if the recorded texts behind those beliefs aren't being consciously re-written. It's the power of myth and legend that can't be contained to a rigid canon. There is a similar common myth about all angels being unspeakable eldritch abominations, for example. In the Bible the vast majority of angels are described as just beautiful humans with a powerful holy presence, but the idea of angels being otherworldly has taken such root in the public consciousness that "Biblically-Accurate Angel" has ironically become a saying.

He'd blow out Wall Street's internet, travel from ghetto to ghetto in a beat-up car to give out an indeterminate amount of canned food along with his entourage/converts/cult. Then he'd get arrested because the celebrities didn't like his socialism, and get dragged off to Gitmo to be tortured to death. The terrorists in the cells next to him would convert. Most would survive Guantanamo Bay getting smited. And three days later a visibly pallid Zombie Jesus would walk out of the sea, have a cup of coffee with his most loyal followers at his richest follower's mansion, and then vanish into a blindlingly bright portal.
