Fort George Island is also the home of the Kingsley plantation, the first African American owned plantation in America. Pretty unrelated to today's episode, but I did a project on it while at UF and thought I'd share

Funny that Jesse says it's not like it was as big as a cannonball. Because cannonballs were mostly smaller than 8 inches in diameter.

This mysterious sphere sounds like the sphere from Jesse's Oddballs campaign.
With it supposedly getting swiped by that guy, did anybody try to find the sphere among his stuff after he passed?

Please someone take Mathas to a machine shop and show that man what ~magical~ things you can do with a lathe. Yes, even seamless spheres are possible with that most eldritch of machinery, sometimes even without a blood sacrifice! Also not even mentioning that this mysterious sphere could just simply be a piece of a industrial valve? Come one, I get that it's fun to speculate and spin some yarn, but this is lazy. The whole end about Hynek potentially swiping it, is the most interesting part of it all.

If ya dont like it then why bother? You just come here to potentially ruin someone else's time? That what gets you off?

@@-Nicetomeetyou Because I enjoyed the earlier content here? Because I've seen this descent into pure schlock in other, similar podcasts before and would hate to see it happen to the boys here too? We are all here to have a good time, spinning some yarn and having a laugh. But I kinda draw the line is just spreading misinformation or losing yourself to conspiracy bullshit. Again, the most interesting aspect of the story of Hynek being a rat is just a footnote. But I guess that was just too mundane.

Why dont the boys send a letter to the Hyneks? It didnt seem like his son knew or understood what the sphere was. Maybe they just have it in a box somewhere as a family oddity? Certainly wouldnt hurt to try reaching out!

Reminds me of the chrome spheres game devs use to measure lighting and reflectivity or something similar.

This is highly reminiscent of the H.P. Lovecraft story The Color Out of Space. A mysterious object with bizarre properties found by a somewhat reclusive family on their fire-ravaged estate in a more rural part of Florida? This sounds like the inciting incident of a fucking rad metroidvania.

I'm guessing that Hynek swiped the sphere, gave the Navy a fake and kept the original.
