Dive into the tumultuous life of Margaret of Anjou, one of the most powerful and controversial women in English history. Married to the weak and troubled Henry VI, Margaret was thrust into the center of the Wars of the Roses-a brutal civil war that tore England apart. As a determined queen and mother, she fought tirelessly to secure the throne for her son, raising armies and forging alliances in a relentless battle against the rising power of the House of York.
In this episode, we explore Margaret's journey from a young French princess to a military leader, her role in key battles like Wakefield and St. Albans, and the infamous portrayal of her as the "She-Wolf of France."

I do think she has been a tad maligned in history. She was married to a Useless husband but did her best. She did what any mother, especially a royal mother of the times, would do for her child. The crown was his next and she fought for his rights. Perhaps, if they’d worked with her than against her, things could have been different. They were acting of their times themselves ( and for money and power). I think Richard was honourable at first but she was so scared of him ( of his reasons and intents I mean) but things got out of hand. Thank you heather, thoroughly enjoyed it and - keep chatting. Love it. 🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

Always enjoy your programs. Thank you. For me, Tudor history began with Catherine of Valois. Without her, nothing of Tudor history would exist. Rarely have I found the story of a man in history nearly as interesting or inspirational as women's stories. You know it starts with the fact they are working against the culture and social arrangement. Defying privilege. Standing on their own feet, determination, and intelligence.

Apologies Heather - I was so excited about the 'Plan-Tudor' label, I forgot to thank you for this excellent broadcast.

I think 'Plan-Tudor' is an excellent label! It could describe so many of those who served Henry 7th, having made the smooth transition from Richard 3rd's court.

Hahahaha - X-ennial is a mix of GenX and Millennial. So those like me born in the late 70's who are still technically GenX (analog childhood and teen years) but got the Internet and personal computers early enough to feel at home with them - not digital natives like the Millennials, but still more comfortable than those who didn't get them until they were out of school. It's a weird little microgeneration because we were latchkey kids who grew up on MTV, but also built websites in the 90's. I imagine there are probably other microgenerations - maybe the end of the Baby Boom years, for example, where they might feel more GenX than Boomer, especially if they were too young to understand the social changes of the 60's? Anyway - hope you were able to successfully fend off the dinosaurs! Yell at some kids to get off your lawn while you're at it!

@@LoboMendez1 You aren't the first person to tell me I talk too much. And you won't be the last :) The people who are my core audience are cool with it. I'm guessing you're not my core audience. But that's cool! That's what makes the internet so amazing. Another Tudor youtube video is just a click away. Have an amazing day!

maybe you can do a video of queen Mary of Guelders.. Maria van Gelre; c. 1434/1435 - 1 December 1463) was Queen consort of Scotland by marriage to King James II stewart of Scotland. She ruled as regent of Scotland from 1460 to 1463. she also assisted the lancastrian cause, especially MAGARET OF ANJOU...this annoyed her husband and the complicated auld alliance between france and scotland, the stewart dynasty was only too happy to remain neutral in the war of the roses, and delighted in civil war in england, that meant, that england had no time or energy to concentrate on invading scotland and that the house of percy in alnwick castle: the march lords paramount of northumberland, the borders were busier with other matters, much further south...
