Hey Kayla! Avid crocheter here! I have an unpopular opinion (at least with many crocheters): knitted socks are better than crochet socks! I've always wanted to learn how to knit so I can make socks. So, as 2025 is quickly approaching, I decided to dive in and teach myself to knit while working up your vanilla socks. I'm so glad I found you and love that you are a sister in Christ and share your faith here! 💛

@happycrabknits9109 I'm using 9 in circulars. I've restarted 3 times b/c my tension was soo tight! I crochet a lot of amigurumi so my tension leans super tight. I have to keep reminding myself to be loosey goosey!

Your story is just like mine a few years ago when I decided to learn to knit after 20+ years of crocheting. I thought socks were the first thing everyone knit - LOL. They actually are not a new beginner project! I persevered with many tears and watched tons of KZbin tutorials and finally completed a pair of socks. If you find yourself getting too frustrated or having hurting hands (like I did) I would recommend doing a few simpler projects first. But I love knitting and making socks!❤

@ljtnc6012 my husband said, "leave it to my wife to choose the tiny needles to learn how to knit!" I say, "go big or go home." 😅 I'm working my way through it. Kayla's tutorial helps!

Thanks for the ideas for bookmarks. I’m working on my 4th Musselburgh hat, I love the idea of making a scrappy Musselburgh. I too enjoy crafting Christmas gifts. Most are knitted but some crocheted. My local library ladies asked me to make The Very Hungry Caterpillar (complete with the foods he eats). I’m not charging for this, just using from my stash, and a couple friends have donated some of the yarn.

Years ago, I made bookmarks from fingering weight cotton and they have lasted and lasted! I put charms on the tips and sometimes something across the top. For men, I took pieces from fishing hook type kits, with a brass or copper fish, and tacked through the tiny holes at each end across the flat top and put a weight from the kit on the tip. I still see them in use and am happy about that! I didn't have to starch them and they have kept their shape. I did use some texture rather than plain stocking stitch. Enjoy your podcasts! I also get excited making gifts for others.

Your Bible study friends must have been over the moon happy with their surprise gift! Love all the WIPs you have going. I finished my daughter's Rhinebeck Roomies and am so happy with the finished socks. I have some yarn set aside for a pair for me, maybe after the holidays. Oh my goodness, I too want to cast on all the things. I went stash diving this afternoon and bagged up some projects for later. I'd better hide them though-I need to focus on Christmas gift knitting. I get distracted WAYY too easily. :)

Thanks for sharing all of your fun projects and tips! When you cake your yarns for socks, are you dividing the skein in two? That’s what it looked like with your last yellow and brown sets. If so, how do you actually do that? I can’t figure out how to weigh my yarn when it’s partially on a swift and partially on a ball winder.
@CrazySockLadyАй бұрын
Yep. Just cake the yarn up and then cake up half of the cake, cut the yarn and then cake up the other half.
