Shot my first ASI match yesterday and loved it. Decided to join ASI today and plan on shooting one of their matches about once a month. Great job guys!

I've been helping run the ASI program at my local range for about two years, and we're drawing 70 shooters to our monthly matches. Other area clubs are drawing 30-50, with new clubs being added; I think there are now eight clubs in western Washington. Rick

Thanks for this information, I'm planning to shoot this weekend at Renton Fish and Game. You answered all my questions. See you there, hope it doesn't rain.

This is GREAT! I hope ASI spreads like wildfire and gets people out and shooting! Just the kind of thing the competitive shooting scene needs! I would love to try it should it make it to Kansas at some point! Great Episode and interview, seem's like a great group of guys that have organized this, i'm impressed!

Awesome. I am new to action shooting. I joined IDPA and USPSA. I'll check to see if you are in my area. Nor-Cal.

Early on, I railed against the table and low-ready starts in ASI, but now, I embrace a match that features starts not involving a holster draw; from a defensive standpoint, if my situational awareness is working, I'll already have gun in hand at the moment of shoot/don't shoot. Rick

Some things to note about the rules and courses of fire, if it's not obvious in the videos. Cover is based on an elevated fault line, like is used for shooting zones in USPSA; if your foot is inside the line, you're legal. Courses of fire generally have very little movement, so athleticism doesn't count for much. There are no divisions, classifications, or power factors; everyone competes head-to-head. Scoring is time-plus penalties like IDPA, but each point is worth one full second, and all penalties are five seconds; easy to remember, easy to score. Rick

Looks like you haven't reached down to Northern California yet. I'll keep an eye out for you.

There are now - Fall of 2017 - six Action Shooting International clubs in Washington state, and clubs active in eight other states. If it looks like fun and you want to see it at a range near you, contact ASI.

Clubs are now active in twelve states. If you don't have an ASI club near you, contact them to see about starting one. Rick

This is AWESOME!!! I pray it does not some how become co-opted into yet another overly intense money game.

Nice I like this are you going to have anything in SoCal soon?

+Lou Flores I don't know what ASI's marketing plans are? You might check the website or give them a call. I'm sure they'd like to hear from gun clubs and shooting ranges that are looking for a shooting sport to host. Rick

I've been looking for something like this, but incorporating 3 guns so that I can host matches. Do they have a program to get RO certified?

Are there any places doing ASI in the illinois or missouri area

Sounds like a horrible idea. This would only appeal to people that don't shoot competitions. There's a reason they don't shoot competitions. They might get a couple new shooters, but after a couple ASI matches they'd move on to idpa or uspsa and never look back. This is a decent idea for uspsa or idpa to offer like an "intro match",but that's it.

+Wes Rhodes Wes, you're partly right, we're focused on the NON-competition shooter. That includes people that will go on to become USPSA/IDPA competitors, but that's a minority of the people who participate in our matches.

Robin Taylor sure, at this point. I'm not trying to be an asshole here. I just don't see this as a successful stand alone idea. I could see it being successful as a partnership with uspsa or idpa though. I'm saying successful on a national level

+Wes Rhodes I've been shooting the matches and monitoring the success of local clubs, and I don't see it going away any time soon. There are LOTS of people who want to shoot their handguns in dynamic shooting challenges, but who aren't interested in competition. We had another local event, similar in intent to ASI, run quarterly, that would attract fifty people that I'd never seen at an IDPA or USPSA match, and who were interested in the shooting but not the competition. Steve and I taught an intro to USPSA class for 20-30 shooters a year, for a number of years, and of those hundred-odd students, I don't know that even ten of them continued in USPSA; I think there's a market for ASI. Those who catch the bug can move along to USPSA, IDPA, etc. Rick
