I started with crochet and then learned socks too! Socks are so portable but it took me 3 years to finish my first sock. Tension, technique, frogging so many times and then it was too small for anybody but too big for kids. But, my next one was just three weeks. And now a constant on needles WIP is a new sock with a crochet WIP at home. You will get there! Choose a forgiving yarn, cast on to a one size up DPN and then move onto your needle of choice. Keep a really long tail to use as a marker and scrap yarn on the other Half point for heel and toebox marking. Card board cutouts of the end goal sock size is helpful for not-your-own-foot WIP

Lovely podcast. For USA viewers, I'd like to point out that the Molly Makes Crochet book that Sherrie shared, the USA version is HOW TO CROCHET: WITH 100 TECHNIQUES AND 15 EASY PROJECTS. It does have the patterns Sherrie shared. Congrats on your piece of land, and looking forward to you sharing more of it. I also encourage anyone waning to learn how to knit, to keep trudging! I started out with crochet and like Sherrie, I thought I'd never be able to knit a sock until I finally did it. The first one came out huge, but I learned all the important techniques.

Wonderful to see you again, Sherrie! Oh, how you make me laugh...looks like dog's dinner😂. And I'm grateful for your encouragement! I have picked up knitting needles for the 3rd time in my life and am determined to stick with it this time. I have been crocheting for three years and love it, but I've noticed the patterns that catch my eye are mostly knit, so I'm really hoping to get good at knitting. I couldn't do continental purling, so switched to English style knitting and still struggle with tension/how to hold the yarn. I had the same issue with crochet in the beginning, way too tight stitches. So I'm hoping my tension will relax in time. I'm worried my stitches are going to slip off the needles, so I think I keep them too far back. But I've no idea how to pick them up yet if they do fall off as I'm still learning how to read my knitting. Ugh. Trying not to get discouraged. I keep dreaming of knitting a sweater, so I'm persevering. Any tips? Your thoughts, words of advice? Really love all your makes! You're an inspiration!! Thank you!
@OllieandBella Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed watching and yeah - the dogs dinner 😆 How are you finding the knitting? Perseverance is key, I am a tight knitter yet loose crocheter - so funny 😆 I think it's because I was always so tense when I was learning to knit. Maybe try some wooden needles? To help the stitches to say on? Also Very Pink Knits has great tutorials on YT. Thank you for watching and keep at it 💕

Lovely to see you. I have an allotment, i mainly grow soft fruit and flowers as my family are highly suspicious of home grown vegetables😂. You will enjoy yours and i want to grow artichokes now just for the flowers! I don't buy many books because i work in a library and my boss is a massive crafter so we have a huge range of books on knitting and crocheting. Our family favourite board games are Cleudo, Sorry and Tension. Tension is fabulous for all ages to play together because there are questions that kids know and adults don't and vice versa. from a 20g mini i can get a 15 round cuff, fish lips kiss heel and a toe for 2 socks. i use a 64 stitch CO and 2 mm needles. i am a fairly loose knitter. with trying to see how a particular yarn will knit up, if it's a commercial one or from a larger indie dyer, if you search the yarn on ravelry and then click into colourways and then click on the colourway you want, you can see projects that other people have knitted with the yarn. i find that is often a good way to see how a colour will look like knitted up in various projects.

What a lovely episode, on the flashing and pooling front with the yarn there really is no way of telling depending on your project, even that bird street yarn, you know it would microstripe in a sock, but if you were using it in a sweater it could just as easily pool! All depends on the size of the thing your knitting and the gauge! Can’t wait to see the allotment!
