The whole friendzone thing is just to make people feel better about not being able to attract someone. There's no point in being salty because the guy or girl you like doesnt like you back, you aren't "trapped" in the friendzone you just cant be with that person so move on. What they're trying to say is that it sucks, and yeah it does suck. It just so happens that the friendzone is just the best/most tangible way of describe that state of being.
