Governments are failing to uphold treaties-even in the limited way in which they are interpreted by the Crown. Neither historic nor modern Treaties have been fully implemented, and crown management of land where there are treaties and where no treaties has failed to uphold Indigenous responsibilities to the natural world. Although the constitution protects treaty rights, some Nations have had to pursue legal avenues to have their understandings of the treaty recognized and their promises fulfilled.
