Episode 4 | How to decrease the gender gap in education?

In many countries, girls have unequal opportunities in education. For instance, in Bangladesh taboos around menstruation cause thousands of girls to miss several days of schooling each month. How can we address this challenge to decrease the gender gap in education?

In the fourth episode of 'The impact of giving', Professor Paul Smeets shows the results of an evaluation Lidwien Sol, Lonneke Nillesen and himself did of the Ritu program in Bangladesh.
The evaluation shows that building better washing facilities in schools and training teachers on menstrual health improves school attendance of girls. The project also helps other charities to set up a rigorous evaluation of the impact of their programs.
