Aloha Maritza and Jason ! Love the channel and great to see another 1977 Pacific Seacraft Mariah being revived. I have hull # 4 ( SV Sarana ) and enjoyed all four of your episodes thus far...keep it going and a big Mahalo for sharing !

Hi Robert! So happy to know SV Sarana and Nehan are close relatives and still going strong. Do you know about hull #1 or 3?

@@sailingnehan Aloha Maritza & Jason...I haven't any knowledge who owns #1 or #3, be great to know if either vessel is still voyaging. I do know my Hull #4 was on exhibit at the Seattle Boat Show and purchased at the show.

I’m going to sound really smart. Galvanic corrosion. Bolts might be the keel bolts. You might want to check them before you put the tanks in.

Looks like a new tank. Don’t forget to change the fuel filter and sea strainer. Bring spares

Thanks! Lots of hours of elbow grease to get it looking "like new" We definitely bought spares filters and have them handy. Replacing the sea strainer is still on our project list.

it's probably the Quick Tire seal stuff that somebody try to use it to seal the tank . honestly, if I'll come to this point on my cal 34 where I have only 1 fuel tank,(or any major engine issues) I'll go electric.

Not a bad idea, replace the tanks with batteries

Did you consider steam cleaning the tanks once you got them out vs hand scraping and cleaning them? Also might have been a good idea to have a metal shop just cut out the bad areas at the bottom and weld on a new bottom plate. Might have lost some capacity, but might have made for a better tank structurally.

Steam cleaning never crossed our minds! We definitely consider getting then fixed professionally but due to our slim budget, we decided to go with Marine-Tex and Fiberglass for $200 and do it our selves. But great news, so far since we repaired them, they have no leaked! If and when our repaira give out, we'll be looking to either get new tanks or get them professionally repaired.

The tank is covered with that film when it is new. Don’t know what it is called. Protects it. Holes in tank are caused by stray electricity. Ground tanks good
@sailingnehan Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. What do you recommend grounding the tanks to?
@sailingyknot Жыл бұрын
All your chain plates have a green wire going to a ground follow them and ground tank to that point.
