I was at the St. Louis airshow. The F-15QA demo was awesome. So was the dual A-10 demo, the dual F-35 demo, the EA-18G demo the F-22 demo, the B-2 flyby, and the Blue Angels. And that’s not even including all the awesome Warbird demos and Ship Stewart! Crazy lineup.

You should listen to some MSFS videos with guys using VATSIM who offers actual off duty ATC personnel using real ATC regs to control flight. A good example of some VATSIM works are by Airforce Proud 95. Tell Wombat that MSFS is approved for ground training. ( Or at least was) One of the best VATSIM videos was of one poor controller working the entire New York area. It is also a good tool to learn to talk to ATC when learning to fly IFR.

Here I am 8 days late. I hope you’ll see this. I listened in the car on a 7 hour driving trip. Two comments: On MSFS (or X-Plane) yeah there are loads of pushbutton aviators, but to me the real value is learning to fly solely by reference to instruments. How many civilian law enforcement, rescue, medevac etc. helo pilots crash from IIMC? Unforgiveable. Even those with Instrument tickets, they can’t do it. Panic. It takes loads of practice and regular refresh. All that’s needed to save lives: (1) keep the ship right side up, (2) climb away from the ground, (3) be able to turn the ship around on instruments. If you have a co-pilot even better. Have him squawk 7700 and get on guard for help getting to a place to land. Or you need to be able to and fly at the same time. It doesn’t have to be pretty. Second comment: listening on Audible Podcasts, the audio levels of each of you vary all over the place, and even each of you speak softly sometimes then loudly at other times. This is all fine except it’s hell when listening to audio only. There are audio levelers, compressors, etc. that can be put into the audio chain that will help even out the speech volume without ruining the “character” of the speech. Anyway I’m a new listener/viewer. I really like your show. I stumbled on it via the Pers43 episode and I couldn’t agree more with Wombat’s outrage. BZ guys.

Mover, when they start questioning if the su57 drone strike was real, you should have shown them the footage multiple people uploaded and f those drones hitting the base. You don’t see the su57s. But you see the base and the drones nose dive. The attack definitely happened. Only debate should be on what the damage is.

Microsoft flight sim from like 2000 is what got me into aviation! My grandfather bought it for me as a gift and I was hooked haha. Now I fly and am an A&P mechanic lol.

In DFW we a have two Airshows in a given year. Fast pointy nose jets at Carswell JRB, and Warbirds at Dallas executive. I’m not saying that’s bad, but there needs to be more at one the biggest hubs of aviation history to inspire young men and women. DFW/Tulsa is such an aviation rich community in the pioneering days of aviation and background. We need to do more as communities to inspire young kids. I wish Major General Jimmy Stewart (retired list) was still alive to inspire kids. You guys are doing a hell of great in getting young people into aviation. 👍🏻👍🏻

Ha ha. Very long time subscriber. Was gone for a while have come back a few LIVES ago and kept hearing Mover and everybody refer to Luna. Yes I knew Mover had a dog named Luna but this time I thought for a few weeks Mover had a main squeeze, GIRLFRIEND named Luna, cuddling with him in the hotel. I was mystified how Luna could have so much time off to travel back-and-forth with Mover so thought she must be a remote worker. Kept thinking that LUCKY DOG MOVER with a woman who will join him to the ends of the earth. Today Mover promises us a look at Luna and I thought “get ready!” And it’s Luna the dog! 🙈

I'm and FO in a virtual airline though I haven't flown in a while. Been busy at war as a private military contractor, driving a truck or tending to my virtual farm. I'm nearly 40 and these games are my hobbies that I partake in after my wife and kids are in bed. Unless I win the lottery I'm never going to be able to fly for real. But I've been sim flying for the past 2 ½ decades

I know I’ve put my two senses in more than enough in the comments of this episode. I do want to say the Mental health minute is right on. My mom passed a year ago this month. She was living with my wife, son and I for years. I’ve ben the rock and the good father. But it’s really hard when you lose your mom. But you have to pull up them boot straps and be a dad and more. Even in the worst times.

I brought Microsoft Flight Sim in the 80’s when it first introduced 3D New York Cityscapes. It was so nerdy, it only became interesting when you flew between the buildings. This somewhat confirmed my unsuitability as a pilot as my desire would be to slalom my 747 between fishing vessels and cargo ships across the ocean at 1500ft to make it interesting. Probably not compatible with the 1st class dining experience? I never went back to it. 😎😇

The eighth air force counted ground kills as actual “kills”. (Encouraged fighter pilots to strafe airfields to facilitate the destruction of the Luftwaffe as an effective fighting force. (Note: these airfields were fiercely defended by flak batteries,hence the “one pass, haul a**) attitude/tactics. In order to increase damage/destruction counting ground destroyed as”kills” were meant to”encourage” aggressive strafing tactics for these airfield type targets. we’re

For what it's worth as a child of the 90s flight simulators got me into aviation far more than airshows even back then. I had been to a number of airshows but Aces over Europe/The Pacific, Chuck Yeagers Air Combat, and the Janes series got me far more interested.

I disagree with all on MSFS... i think based on todays generation, the game is the precursor to a Flight show and the flight show is precursor to actual training... not one or the other. The old ways still apply... they have just been supplemented with new ways... not replaced.

At the show at Sun n Fun I had lots of fun asking questions from the pilots on the various aircraft tours. Many times they asked me if I flew and I'd let them know I was just a big nerd that enjoyed DCS. I think they enjoyed talking about things that the average person, who was purely a tourist and knew zero about the airframe, knew. The sims and airshow/aircraft tours would have had a life changing impact on me in my teens. The two together could really inspire future pilots.

I agree with Wombat that it's easier to be a pilot that makes money compared to a race car driver that makes money. I'm in the business of motorsports, and the majority of it is funded by people with money already who pay to race or pay to run a team. If you look at formula 1, the majority of driver pay to be there. Only 20 or 30% get payed by their team to drive.

Wombat makes a good point. AI and VR experiences can be a trap for not doing it in the real world. This is true for many things not just flying. The rise of AI girlfriends, for example...

On the Hornet with the SM-6, the A-6 used to shoot the SM-1 (AGM-78) as an anti-radiation missile. The SM-6 is also used as an anti-ballistic missile so...if China or Russia starts shooting down all of our satellites...

It was in an anti-drone cage. The belief is that the drone flew under the top part of the cage which is why the explosion was next to the fighter and not directly on the fighter. On another note, the money spent to make those bunkers was probably used to buy a yacht.

American ship building in general is abysmal and military shipbuilding is no exception. The merchant marine and ready reserve are not in good shape either. If we have to fight a real naval war we might be in big trouble. There have been several good videos on the issue on a few different channels: what's going on with shipping, sub brief and Ward Carrol did a recent one.

The comment about shipbuilding capacity is misunderstood, they measured total shipbuilding capacity in tonnage including civilian ships. I like how Wombat thought 232% greater sounded ridiculously high, the real number is 232 TIMES greater or 23 200% ! This should not come as some great surprise, China's global market share in Shipbuilding is 58% while hardly any civilian ships get built in the U.S.

Stop bashing Gonky for questioning videos from War. Sandboxx news analyzed the photo of the SU-57 and said that the plane may not even be damaged that bad. We should be questioning the narrative of both sides involved in an active war. Just like the Ghost of Kyiv stuff, or the snake island stuff was all war propaganda.

To be clear, the snake island and ghost of kyiv stuff was broadly brought about by fog of war mixed with a focusing boosting morale while the capital was being sieged. The snake island stuff being honestly understandable, because after they lost contact with the soldiers on the island they had no reason to presume them anything but dead. But that all being said- there has been plenty of footage showing the damage Ukraines armed forces have inflicted on the VKS time and time again. Gonky, still, just believes it to be utter nonsense. Especially during both A50s shootdowns. I'll just say it bluntly- I think he just has this image of a strong, unbeatable Russian Air Force that just doesn't match up with the footage we've seen of Ukrainian aircraft still existing in enough numbers to contest the airspace alongside their ground based air defense systems. If asked to explain why that is, I'd wager he'd just call all the footage fake news. Cause, well, he's done so constantly to the actual footage.

I do side with him on his opinions though. He's not just flat out refuting everything, but he's very suspicious of many of the things that are being reported during this war. Seems like a perfectly logical position to have. And he certainly does have some experience with the topic considering his past career.

@@josephhernandez5386 Both of these stories were war Propaganda to keep up moral for Ukrainians which is great, but you need to understand that both sides are manipulating the media that's coming out of the warzone, and not just be a brainwashed leftoid who believes Ukraine has a solution to win this war. The outcome of this situation is highly likely to become the next Korea with a DMZ and a soft armistice. Russia would not be able to last more than two months against our Military, but they are more than capable of continuing to fight against Ukraine alone indefinitely. They have millions of people to conscript and are in a war economy, Ukraine is running out of troops and will not be able to keep up with the manpower shortage. Also Russia is outpacing the entire west with artillery shell production. This is about being realistic.

In regards to the MSFS 2024 Topic. Least we forget, there are many adults who grew up playing flight simulators and yet, because of their current everyday jobs, can't afford to enjoy games like these. Why? Top-end PCs are just ridiculously expensive. So as great as this game is, it's unfortunately not accessible to everyone, especially those who still have a passion for flight sims yet have to worry about rent/mortgage, bills, kids, general expenses, taxes etc. It's really not a commodity anyone can enjoy. And it should be, in my opinion.
