This podcast was awesome! I think this is Sean Carroll's best guest so far. I love the contrast of Frank Lantz's clarity of communication as compared with the previous episode author. I had just written in comments that the previous author was impossible to understand, and then, listening to Frank Lantz, it was such a relief as he clearly communicated each idea. Bravo to Sean for finding Frank Lantz. Cheers!

Sean did cover the topic of video games. At long last, I cannot expect anything else from this man. except maybe deal a bit more with consciousness, there is so much more to it.

The music and voice components of games are increasingly important. Major actors now voice characters and music genres and artists have had there launch from games. Appreciate Frank's comment that games are more than technology, i.e., Cultural. Understand why NYU have studies devoted to the entirety.

In relation to Go, it is worth noting that the Al invented strategies that no human had ever used. Players now study the strategies AlphaGo generated. This could be a lesson for physics... How to get the AI to find a path forward that human creativity could not.

i used to play halo online 24/7 at one point, and a close friend of mine used to scoff at the waste of time, but even though i don't think she got it, i tried to explain that although the game might be virtual, the friendships, and "battle hardened cameraderie" were kind of real. it's the closest i'll come (and ever want to come) to being in a band of brothers (and sisters, there are some great girl players about).

Very fun episode. Your Simcity 2000 style opening tune is extra fitting in this case.

Thanks for uploading, the audio is fine, and like you said, the conversation is definitely fruitful enough to share. I deleted a couple of conversations from my channel because they were bad, but they were pretty bad. This one sounds normal.

Sean Carroll for ambassador of cool scientists. And yes I'm a Joe Rogan fan boy this is where I find these interesting AF people of the world. Either way I am now also a Sean Carroll fan boy.. who else has followed this same progression? Can I get a "yeah science"!?

I actually started paying more attention to Joe Rogan after he interviewed Sean Carroll. Joe is a great interviewer/listener indeed. Yeah science.

@@robertglass1698 yeah he totally relaxes his interviewees and gets them to open up more freely. Hes the best! Bob Lazar recently was a really interesting interview if you haven't seen or know anything of his story it's well worth a look like.

Steve, you sound like me - lol. I’m also a Joe Rogan fan boy as well as a Sean Carroll one ... I love Sean!!! I’ve listened to everyone of his podcasts & am just now finishing up his book “The Big Picture “.... Talk about a “Cool Scientist” but not at the expense of watering down or talking down to his audience, he’s the best - 2nd to none

@@TaborTalk absolutely couldn't agree more. I'm only just getting into this stuff over the past year or so, have always found an interest but with thanks to Sean Carroll, Eric Weinstein and Krauss along with countless youtube videos I have some sort of an understanding I like to think now. But yes as soon as I'm done reading Jordan b Peterson's 12 rules for life I will be moving on to Sean Carroll's "the big picture" that's for sure. 😊✌

This podcast, when mentioning AlphaGo, made me think about that AI will have no desire to invent silly things that humans do. Some AI sceptics often take as an example that AI will never "reach" human enginuity. Well, I say AI will go far beyond that. Farther that any human will ever go.
