This video is about Larimar. Where does it come from? Why is it so expensive? Why does only come from the Dominican Republic? What causes that blue color?

In addition to my general obsession with crystals and minerals, I have recently developed a profound fixation with Larimar. Which is super cool and slightly unfortunate for my wallet, because it is not a cheap stone.

One of my fav. An absolute anti-stress and soothing stone for me. Each time I feel down, whith negative thoughts, and low energy I wear it for a few weeks. I instantly feel better, it has a gentle yet firy energy, helps me to feel positive, grounded with an open heart. Blue stones (aquamarine, turquoise, larimar) are the best soothers for me ❤

That’s for sure. But it is never too late to start. You don’t have to go wild, but if a piece of larimar speaks to you and you can afford it. Treat yourself!

It's illegal to ship this gem raw, so it has to be at least partially finished.

I know this video is old and you are not doing the youtube thing any longer, but if there was some time. What are some acceptable treatments of Larimar. Most on sale in shopping channels is stabilized, but I would like something that hasn't been dyed. So what is the industry accepted versus common treatments (like filling versus oiling in emeralds)? Thanks

I have a piece that I can see the glow of a flashlight behind it. I was told Larimar is opaque and light could not go through but I also heard that is not true. Could you tell me if translucent is a indicator of being fake.

You should not be able to see through it. If you have two pieces and bump them together, if it sounds like glass, it is glass. I think you probably have a fake.

Do you know where to buy real authentic larimar?
@pauldeasygemstones
@pauldeasygemstones Жыл бұрын
Great question, Skyblue. All of the larimar is mined in the Dominican Republic, so ir you every vacation there, pretty much every resort will have some for sale. They are quite proud of their "national stone). Likewise, if you every take a Caribbean Cruise, many cruise ships will also sell it on board or at various ports of call. In my days as a shopping host or guest, I offered larimar on various shopping channels such as QVC, HSN, and ShopNBC. Finally, if you ever visit gem shows (my favorite being the Tucson Gems shows in January/February each year, you can buy almost anything. I have bought larimar from there in the past. Hope that helps!

@@pauldeasygemstones confirmed. I went to many Caribbean islands and larimar jewelry was everywhere. I wish i had bought some. I was too obsessed with Tanzanite.

I love this stone for my wife. My question is: how do you know the piece you're considering is really worth say $500, and not $200 ?
@pauldeasygemstones
@pauldeasygemstones Жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, this is a great question. I will probably release this answer in a video tomorrow. The answer is actually pretty simple, believe it or not. But the question isn't really just about gemstones and value, it is more a question about research and economics. First, in this day and age we are in a unique position to find out almost anything costs. Everyone who subscribes to my channel has access to the internet. Everybody shops online all of the time. We shop in department stores, walmart, high end jewelry stores etc. Once we do all of that, we usually go to amazon.com and compare the prices. you can see prices on amazon for under $100. Conversely you will see thelarimarstore.com with larimar jewelry in that $200-$400 range. And you will see that the more expensive pieces with better color and less inclusions (which in larimar are usually black spots. Now for the economics part. Bear with me here. When I was in high school, probably 9th grade or so, I took a class in economics (yes, I was a bit of a nerd). I learned to define what causes inflation . I learned all about supply and demand. Most importantly, I remember my teacher explaining how to determine "worth". He gave an example of the richest contract in the NFL at that time-OJ Simpson was awarded a contract for $700,000 give or take. That was unheard of at the time. Many people said he was overpaid and not "worth" the money. But the economist teacher explained that when somebody is willing to pay that player the money, they are (by the very definition of the word) "worth" that money. I warned you that I was a nerd back then. So how does this relate to your question? Well, we already know to find out the range of larimar jewelry prices online. If you learn nothing else from this reply, remember these 3 things: 1-the larimar you choose will be worth whatever you are willing to spend on it. No more, no less. 2-Never buy a piece of jewelry as an "investment". Gems and jewelry that are being worn and enjoyed will be prone to scratches, cracks, etc. A true gem "investment" piece would be a D color flawless diamond (or equivalent precious rare gem that is flawless and rare) that sits in a save or safety deposit box in a bank. Finally, don't equate price with quality or desirability. The best part of your story is you are picking out this larimar for your wife. She will be thrilled that you took the time to pick it out for her. That means everything to her. She will then tell her friends what an awesome you are, it will make all of her girlfriends jealous. Guaranteed!
