You are very welcome Darren! The color changing does add a cool aspect to these shots!
@DarrenD77710 жыл бұрын
Hi, I appreciate the tutorial - it contains some of the best info on the subject I've seen so far. However, you could further improve your smoke shots by making the background *completely black*. There are many ways to do this - here's a couple using PS - go to: Image>Adjustments>Levels, and clicking on the black (not white or grey) dropper and then clicking on your background...OR by moving the first left (black) slide adjuster to the right - thus making the dark parts darker. Keep going - you're doing some cool stuff! BTW - the music (starting at about 8:12) is a bit annoying (that's my personal opinion though) but if you could mix it a bit quieter so we can hear more of your instruction (your voice) and less of the music that would help me understand what you are saying - but it's not a bad mix (I used to do sound and recording) trust me - I've watched other vids that I had to *stop* because they had mixed the music so loud I couldn't understand the instruction - thus rendering the instruction vid worthless. You may notice that most of the professional tutorials on youtube don't have any music during instruction - only during the "pre-roll" content at the beginning of their vid. That way if I want to listen to my own music in the background (iTunes, or similar) I can. All in all I'd say you're doing a good job! Please keep posting and I'll keep watching. God Bless. :-D
@TheShutterSchool10 жыл бұрын
Hey Darren, Thanks for watching. I think that my monitor may be in need of calibration. It looked pretty black on my screen, thanks for the heads up. I just added the music during the editing because there was a lot of "dead air" and I thought is seemed a little lacking. I will keep it all in consideration in future videos. Thanks again! :)
@DarrenD77710 жыл бұрын
Well, the lack of black could be caused by the image compression in the digital video (like JPEG compression - aka "Quality" in Saving a PS file in JPEG format) and that causes things to appear different than they are in real life.
@TheShutterSchool10 жыл бұрын
That could be! Im more of a picture guy. The videos are still pretty new to me.

can you do the paint the smoke in the adobe photoshop lightroom 6?
@TheShutterSchool9 жыл бұрын
+RCT3 and more It can definitely be done with photoshop. Light room is just a little more user friendly in my opinion, but photoshop can accomplish pretty much anything if you know the tricks to get it done.
@boop_my_snoot52739 жыл бұрын
so the photoshop lightroom 6 can do what you did with the brush color?
@TheShutterSchool9 жыл бұрын
Yes it can definitely be done. You would be using an adjustment layer to color your smoke. Here is my Layer mask video kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnq3n5ZrbNudpNU

@dustinthompson37268 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it! on lr5 it should be done pretty much the same way. on the right side find the tone curve. Just move the end points to the opposite of where they are and you should be all set!
@onxyfoto88068 жыл бұрын
I tried but it only curves the line. it does not actually go all the way down like you did.
@dustinthompson37268 жыл бұрын
you have to grab the line on the very end. otherwise it will just bend the curve

I tried. Thanks for the help though. If possible I can mail you a video of what I am doing and see if you can help.

I may have to try it with a quick burst from a flashlight. The only problem is that since the smoke is moving there will be a bit of blur

how can it be done without flash, light room, or photoshop. I don't have any of that stuff period. if there is a way, I can show you pics I took with an led light. it was my 1st attempt and smoke
@TheShutterSchool8 жыл бұрын
+brandon thomas That could be tricky! I think you will at least need a flash. You can get a used one pretty cheap like this one www.ebay.com/itm/Vivitar-283-Flash-Used-Works-Box-/201558437784?hash=item2eedd1af98:g:IF4AAOSwAvJXCS3N . Editing just gives it a little flair but isn't needed. You can change the color by trying different white balances. best of luck!

+TheShutterSchool thank you so much for the response and quick one at that. lol I am an amateur photographer and self taught for about 2 years now. only shoot in raw and manual mode. I do not own or use any editing software. only things that's usually done is crop, contrast, highlight. I took some pics at night with some friends using smoke. Nothing fancy was used other than an led light ring and high fstop. I'd appreciate if you could view those pics on my instagram (brandookie79) and let me know what could be done to improve my smoke pics. it was my 1st try a couple weeks ago. love your vids and thanks for helping all of us.

+TheShutterSchool thanks for the link. I'll check it out. what type of editing software would you recommend if I decide to get into that?
@brandookie798 жыл бұрын
+TheShutterSchool the link of the flash you sent me, will that work with my camera? I have a Canon else rebel t5i and a t3i. super cheap for that flash
@TheShutterSchool8 жыл бұрын
brandon thomas I checked out your work. Really great stuff man! You are well on your way! I would probably start out with lightroom and then pick up photoshoop a little later on. I use both. I believe that the flash will work on your camera. It will definitely work if you use it like i did when it was in the tube and i was triggering it by hand.

Also, my camera doesn't want to focus it keeps changing when the light goes out, then it wont' work at all. I dont know how to lock it like you did. It's a canon 1300D =rebel 6 I believe.
