I need to do this job also. A third grader can replace the front one. It's the back one we need to see.

It takes all of 10-15 minutes to remove the windsheild wiper cowel. giving easy, unrestricted access to the valve cover and spark plugs. Do both covers the same day. Still saves you time and a boatload of agrivation. While you're at it, change your plugs, a well.

Watched this. Decided to take the cowl off and it was still a challenge getting to some of those bolts. There are videos on how to take it off. I would do it. Can’t imagine this job with it on.

Very helpful, thank you! I will say that removing the wiper cowl assembly is easy, and may actually save time overall depending on someone's skills

You explained it very clearly. I so much appreciate how you showed us that we could replace the gaskets without removing the intake manifold.

Watching how you did this, it's gonna be a lot easier than I thought. I wasn't concerned about the front one, but the one in back...I might go ahead and take the cowl off, I don't know yet. Thanks loads, I really appreciate this video.

Easier to just take out the windshield wiper tray/cowl. Use a puller to remove the windshield wiper arms. Don't crack the windshield by trying to pry them off. And change the spark plugs while you are at it.

Exactly, and him NOT doing his rear should put a butt load if doubt and wonder why not just pop off the cowl, takes me 10 mins and in my rear plug set your fighting for leverage and angles even with cowl removed in removing that middle spark plug

People take all that stuff off to get to the back one. You can either take the upper intake and air filter off or take the wiper cowl off to get to it. Taking the upper intake and all off isn’t really a big deal to be honest.

I have two, 2005 grand caravans w the 3.8L engines. One doesnt have an EGR valve, both ports (where it fits and where the pipe leads to) are plugged with plastic pieces. It looks natural & doesnt seem out of place. It was that way when i bought years ago, and has passed smog in Calif. Can i block off the other 2005 caravan too? Thanks Chris.
@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Жыл бұрын
dont know, some have a power steering fluid line bolted to the back valve cover, there are differences between the engines, so just be careful. those plastic pieces may be the power steering lines that bolt on top the coil pack area fluid reservoir

105 inch pounds (which equates to 8.75-foot pounds) of torque is the factory specification for tightening the valve cover bolts using a Criss Cross pattern and that is also for torque specification for tightening the oil pan bolts if you ever need to replace the oil pan gasket.

how long does this job take and how much does it cost for mechanic to do this repair ?
@dj1111s Жыл бұрын
I have an estimate from a local mechanic from 2018. It was $272. I can only imagine the cost of labor is much higher now. I just did my gaskets front and rear. Cost for the gaskets was about $17. It took about 4 hours to complete both. The rear one wasn't so bad. Actually for all the anxiety I had it all went fine. Just take your time. The old gaskets were hard as a rock and came out in pieces. Was leaking bad.
