Hello Drew. Another great showcase of your 53 set. I watched this as I update my acquisition and wish list by year for my own vintage collection. That 53 set is awesome looking. The stories shared with edited video clips of interviews or game action makes for a pleasant video.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate the kind comment. I thought of you actually when I was in NY filming my video of the Polo Grounds. Someone asked if I was a Yaz fan. I have no idea why he asked me that because I was not wearing any Red Sox gear. lol Anyway, thanks again.

Nice to see the 1953 Topps series come back. Always enjoy anything with Enos Slaughter. Gus Zernial is a go to vintage guy for me nobody talks about. His 52 Topps is a card of beauty. One of my favorites. McDougal and Kinder and Hatten. Great highlights here Drew. Enjoyed.

Hello Drew, great video. I learned a lots in watching this video. Lucky Gus Zernial had met Marylin Monroe. Very impressive than all thoses guys had their career interruped by the WWII. I enjoyed to listen the Enos Slaughetr and Gus Zernial interviews. Thanks you for sharing and Happy Telling.

There’s so much to learn about these players I didn’t know much or anything at all about. Really cool to know that Slaughter inspired Charlie Hustle. The story of a seagull dropping a 3 pound smelt while Kinder was pitching at Fenway is great. The story of baseball and the great players that have played it is just the best. Thanks for sharing another one of your great 53 set videos, Drew.

Hi Drew. I’ve missed these videos. Happy to see you’re still pursuing this series. Nice job with Slaughter. I’m glad you mentioned how he influenced Rose. That’s pretty common knowledge with Cardinals fans but I don’t think a lot of others knew that. Supposedly he was buried in his Cardinals uniform. You do a nice job with this. Looking forward to the next one.

Hi Drew! I really enjoyed listening to your video on my ride to work this morning. You shared a lot of interesting information presented in an entertaining way. I did not know about Enos' influence on Pete Rose. I loved the Lou Brock quote about his friendship with Enos. You go from the family man McDougald to the partying Kinder. The image on the Hatton card is beautiful; it may be my favorite of the cards you have shown so far. The face and background have such vivid detail and rich color. I think it would have been fun to go to a Hollywood Stars game in the late '40s to see Gus play-maybe see him play against Billy Martin on the Oaks. Take care.

Thank you sir. I appreciate the kind comment. I agree! Going to a Hollywood Stars game would have been a lot of fun. Sounds like the PCL was quite the league and MLB could have easily had 3 different leagues (AL, NL, PCL). I had found that quote by Pete Rose several weeks before his passing.

I thought I might get to drop the first comment, but I guess ya gotta get up before the sun to beat @godisgreat8462...I'm disturbed by the ending. Should I keep growing my collection? My times have changed. A 10 year veteran and career 40 WAR player starts a janitorial company to provide for his family. According to baseball reference, McDouglad made 155K in his final 5 years. Figure his first 5 was far lower and the guy probably made under $250K in his career. Granted it was 1961 (in today's dollars that is ~2.5M). Certainly good money but not anywhere near a mid-level reliever or a utility infielder today.

Thanks for popping in even if you weren't first. lol I wonder if players back then got many perks or if they paid for all of their own residual items that are needed for that type of life. For example, I once heard that only got so many unis before they had to pay for their own. Thanks again.
