What a full episode! You left me with a smile. Tommy is so sweet. Your shawl is beautiful and the colors compliment you perfectly. Thanks for showing the cooking and baking. I'm still on the fence about whether we would benefit from having an air fryer. Probably by the time we decide to.get one, there will be some new appliance/gadget must have. We did decide if our current oven dies, we would consider this as an alternative. Growing up I learned to cook by following recipes and to sew by following patterns. Which was fine, but you end up with a hood on a sweater🤔. It took me thirty plus years to start to "wing it". Maybe not on garments, but certainly most other sewn projects are pretty and/or useful. And I haven't starved. I actually enjoy a challenge of taking something and repurposing or redesigning to make something I will actually like. Thanks for sharing! See you next week.

Always good to end with a smile Karen, you're right a sweetie. If you're happy with your oven then stick with it I'd say! I do agree about improvising, we were brought up to follow patterns, follow the music, say your times tables by rote. I'm enjoying selecting my material for the memory book, bit like a scrappy quilt! See you next time. xx

Morning Leslie, I thought to myself just because it's sewn together it will easily come undone, am so pleased with the fit of the jumper. As for the hood the jacket is at least six years old and the hood was ok then but not for me now. I thought I'm not losing anything because I'm not wearing it. I took the chance and haven't taken it off since! Well worth the time and not half as risky as I thought! Lovely to hear from you, take care.

Well, honestly it wasn't hard. I do think the yarn makes a difference but it was surprisingly easy. We had a lovely time with Tommy. He loved the bakewell tart and cheesecake!. Your altered sweater looked a much better fit, well done. You’re such a skilled knitter and crafter, it seems like you just begin a project and then it’s finished already. How fortunate you are to have so many photos and memorabilia to put in your lovely memory albums. Tommy is a real dear :).

Morning Deborah, I never take my tea for granted, everyday it's lovely, why would I ever want to go out to eat. We don't eat spicy food, enjoying the flavour of whatever we are eating. I will creep in and surprise him another day! I'm happy with my sweater. If something is not quite right, change it! I'm hoping that my photos will eventually be organised into some kind of order! Only thing I don't have is much for my teenage years which is a shame. Thanks for joining me again, see you next time.xx - Hope the weather in Canada is improving now.

So lovely to catch up with you again Penelope. Your scarf is so very pretty and would look lovely and be so wearable in different colours. You are so clever to be able to alter you garments with so much confidence and ease. I will try your bakewell tart recipe but it will be in a conventional oven as I don't own an airfryer. Such a sweet ending with little Tommy. xx

Hi Pene. for the bumper episode, I really enjoyed it all, as usual. Your cardigans and jumper both look great after their surgery. Beautiful shawl too, gorgeous colours. Wow what a jam packed interesting and inspiring video. So many different skills, crafts and information to help us crafters along. The tweaking of your cardigans was very clever and I can see you enjoy wearing them again. I can’t wait to share the horse’s hooves video with my daughter in law and granddaughter who have horses. We once had a Bakewell tart on holiday from Australia in beautiful Bakewell, they were so delicious . Now you have given me the recipe ! I found the visual making of the tarts and Pete’s air fryer cooking helpful as our air fryer is not used very much . This is a bit of bird randomness ,my husband and I were beside a lake yesterday and a couple of water moorhens and quite young ones were standing at our feet on the path waiting for scraps. The very young ones seemed to have softer wider feet with flappy bits like a grey silicone along the toes. I wondered if it was a bit like the horse’s s hooves? Have you ever noticed such a thing? Thanks again for a great video.😊
@penelopeschinwag Жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer, I can't say I have noticed young moorhen's feet. I looked it up but couldn't see anything about them. Great for you to see it first hand. The bakewell tarts will be super in the oven. Enjoy. I've visited Bakewell, staying nearby and it's such a lovely town. See you soon. xx

You are so patient Pene. I wouldn't have the confidence to cut the knitting ! I probably would have added more flour to the pastry as it looked too wet, but it turned out beautifully. I'm also of the age when I can remember plastic popper necklaces & I spent my money in Swansea Woolworth for my dear mother on a school trip. Aged 8 or 9. She wore it valiantly though she must have hated it !! 😂
@penelopeschinwag Жыл бұрын
Hi Patricia, yes, the pastry looked wet which is why I plopped it in by hand but it turned out really well. I've made it again and it was pretty similar, so maybe I'll stick with it. I didn't feel the stitches would run down and I'd lose them as the wool is shetland and a bit sticky so I took the chance, so pleased. Swansea Woolworth is a lovely memory for you. I expect she loved it as you bought it for her. I did love the pop they made. xx

Another engrossing podcast! The fact regarding horses hooves was rather shocking...yet amazing. Nature is so incredible isn't it? My brother intends to start bee keeping next year; in his research he learned that bees sometimes form a chain while in the hive and one theory as to why is that they are measuring the interior before building their cells. I haven't made it through all your previous podcasts yet so if you already covered that fact, please forgive. If not, maybe it could be of interest to you! Your sweater modification was interesting to watch. I did something similar with a purchased wool sweater but with the cuffs. The sleeves were too long and something had munched on the wool. However my newly picked up stitches were upside down to the old ones! (Don't know why.) Yours turned out beautifully, and the new ribbing looks perfect. Your new sweater is also lovely, and yes, the modifications to the sleeves were needed. You have to be happy with the end result. And that Tommy, oh my! So cute! My husband now joins me when you come on and he had a good chuckle over Pete. Too funny. Loved how you kept right on filming. 😊
@penelopeschinwag Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ronna, I haven't come across that fact before so will look it up, thanks for thinking of Chinwag when you heard it! Well my stitches were the right way up because it was the way the knitting was knitted if you get me. The rib was knitted from the collar up and when I undid my jumper I still was knitting in the same way. However when you undid the cuffs you were knitting in the opposite direction to the original knit. Well done though I still think its worth doing but much harder on a purchased sweater. So pleased husband is joining too. More will come from Pete in the kitchen but impromptu is best I think! Well, I agreed with him by saying I know but then plowed on! See you next time. xx

Hi Pene and Pete, I always enjoy your chinwags. Thank you for putting them up, I find them inspiring and fun. It's because of you two that I finally got an air fryer. It's been fabulous. (A bit of rubbed salmon has been a favorite for us) Pete's cooking segment was very helpful and I hope they'll be more "making tea with Pete" in the future. Your Bakewell tarts are on my short list, did you freeze any? I like how you always put some up for later. If I don't do that I tend to eat the lot. My husband just retired, a bit unexpected but it will be fine. I told him he's my new head gardener, Monty Dan. lol. The trees in New England are coming on to full feather, the weather has a bit of a chill in it, but the sun warms things up nicely as the day goes on. The alterations and your knitting are beautiful as always. Same for that darling boy. Grands are the best. Have a lovely week, and thanks again for sharing.

Hi Jan, thanks for joining me and those kind words. I do always freeze my bakes. The bakewell tart froze very well. One left for grandson coming tomorrow to help Pete cut the grass! How lovely your husband has retired. Pete retired at 60 (18 years ago now, where does time go!) unexpectedly but it has been great to share so many things together. Our weather has been the same, chilly in the morning but warms up beautifully with the sun. We went for a walk into town this morning by the sea and we were quite warm. Next time's film I expect! Take care. xx
