My father always play this on the harmonica. I learned this song just listening him and played it a lot when I was a boyscout. We live in France and are french and now I'm older I understand why a CSA flag flies in our yard.

I rescued a dog recently off the road up by Demopolis Alabama. Named her Susanna because of this song and the fact we were in Alabama. EVERYTIME I whistle this tune she comes a running! Matter of fact she’s sitting beside me right now as I type and y’all are playing! Thanks!!!

I love this song, too. I once learned this song translated into Korean at school. 멀고 먼 앨라배마 내 고향은 그곳. The far away Alabama is my hometown. 밴조를 메고 나는 너를 찾아왔노라. I brought a banjo to see you. 오 수재너 이 노래 부르자. oh, Susanna. let's singing this song. 멀고먼 앨라배마 내 고향은 그곳. The far away Alabama is my hometown. special thanks to Korea.

The 2nd South Carolina String Band was what got me into the fiddle. Played your music in wood shop class back in January when I made my first fiddle, a cigar box one! About two weeks later I bought an “actual” one (though I might argue a cigar box violin is a real one!) Oh Susannah was the first tune I learned. Love it to death and definitely play it the most. Might not know all the words (yet) but that melody is sure stuck in my head forever now.

Johan, Thanks for the kind words ! Who knows ? What, exactly, do you consider our 'classics' ? If such a thing were to happen, it would be strictly downloadable from the net. We are (pretty much - we don't intend to inventory more than 100 at any time going forward) totally DONE with physical CDs, as they seem determined to follow the Dodo into oblivion in the not-too-distant future...

@@patrioticamerican6414 We are, as I like to say, spread out "from Manassas to Massachusetts - and then some." Personally, I'm in NH. We have 1 in MA, 1 in CT, 2 in PA, and 1 in VA. The band is named for the reenacting unit we all joined, Co.I, 2nd South Carolina Volunteer Inf'y, in Salem MA in 1989 (where it ain't easy being Confederate), and of course, the unit was named to honor the original regiment, formed by Col. Joseph Kershaw in Charleston, SC, in 1861, one of the best fighting outfits in Lee's famous Army of Northern Virginia.

2nd South Carolina String Band I support both America and the CSA I get called racist daily because I listen to southern soldier Dixie Bonnie blue flag and yellow rose of Texas did you know they keep a statue of a communist leader Lenin who killed millions and they want to tear down statues of Lee whom never owned slaves and was fighting for his homeland Richmond Virginia
