Yu-Jin's mom said that he will be a star because Korean names have Chinese character equivalents (called Hanja in Korean). Since before the Korean writing system was invented by the King, we only used Hanja to write in Korean. For Yu-Jin his Chinese characters are 维(Yu)辰(Jin) and the character 辰 means star. So Yu-Jin (or Jin) doesn't mean star in Korean, but the roots of his name mean star. The Korean word for star is 별(Byeol). I hope this helps!

I sort of agree but I think there's a distinction between the madhyung (eldest) and leader roles and jiwoong fits the role of a madhyung rather than a leader. I see the leader as being someone a little more direct, serious, and assertive, and the madhyung being more of a supporting leader role who can be a bit more silly or playful but back up the leader and be mature and give advice or criticism when needed. Jiwoong to me feels a little too goofy and introverted to be the main leader but I think he makes the perfect madhyung because he's playful with the younger guys and makes them feel comfortable but still has the ability to have a serious conversation and give important opinions. I think he's really good at gently guiding from behind. Anyway no one asked but that's just my two cents.

@@basil4417 You make a good point. I do think that Jiwoong is direct though, the situation with Matthew showed that. I don't see why the leader shouldn't be a bit silly and playful, look at Bang Chan of Stray Kids. The leader shouldn't have to be just mature and calm, they need to be able to have fun with the other members too. And Jiwoong is literally an ENFJ if I remember correctly. However, he does fit the role of madhyung too. I still think there's no reason why he shouldn't be the leader, but I see where you're coming from.

Haruto carried ep 9 on his back. He served comedy (black lipstick) as usual. But then we got to see his completely new side, his leadership (correcting Ollie and helping out Zihao & Seowon in their vocal parts) and him taking Sub vocal was such a surprise. He definitely got out of his comfort zone this time. He chose completely different concept from his previous missions, took the role of vocalist, showed great leadership and slayed the killing part. My respect for him grew a lot in this episode. I really hope people finally open their eyes and vote for Haruto. I don't want another Wumuti incident.

Supercharger was definitely a breakthrough and good that the members were given highlight yet mnet still managed to hide Wang Zihao. Haruto did go through a lot. What MNET didn't show is how Zihao actually helped in changing the choreo and also taught the rest of the members the choreo. How Haruto run to Zihao after the performance crying before they did the circle thing. This is based from the star creators who were there during the performance. It is sad when they cut out a lot of things that were related to Zihao cause they said he really slayed during that time and looked awesome.

Woongki had always a master in easily adjusting to any concept. He has performed so many concepts before. Idk if y'all watched road to kingdom but to me that was his peak. He was a literal 2-3 months rookie performing one if the most hardest kpop song ever 'rising sun' by tvxq and he pulled it off easily with such great stage presence and vocals. What I took from the whole Matthew-Hanbin-Jiwoong situation is that Jiwoong and Hanbin will most likely be co-leaders, Hanbin taking over dance practices type stuff and Jiwoong being more of a decision maker, counting them on shows , etc. Other than that, I think they’re all really starting to feel the pressure of the show coming to and end and they all want to show their best selves because they’re so close. I kind of like seeing these moments cause it shows that even when the members get on there is still conflict behind the scenes and it isn’t always perfect 😅

Omg I loved the Sunoo reference, he is my ult. I think in boys planet, Woongki can have the exact opposite of Sunoo storyline. Sunoo was the fan favourite through out the episodes but the fans dropped him last minute, in BP so far Woongki has never gotten much support from the fans, but if he can raise up to rank 9 last minute, the producers won't be able to do anything about it. Honestly imo, the way over me team choose the members was a lot more nicer than how say my name did. Bcos in over me they chose (I think) 2 members who they want to stay in the group and performed with and I think the way they choose is based on their opinions who would suit the concept/song more. Its like since they had 2 members vying for the killing part (zhanghao and keita) they chose zhanghao, they need a main vocal so they need jay to stay, ricky fits the concept overall with just his visuals alone, kuanjui for his elegant style in dancing needed for the song and jeonghyeon was chosen too bcos he made a rap part for the song. Basically they chose a strong vocal line since over me is a vocal song. I like jongwoo, keita and zihao in over me too, but its inevitable to happen. Personally I do think the three were more of a hiphop/grunge style dancer. While in say my name team, the way they chose the members is a bit more cruel bcos they really did chose someone who they dont want to stay. And the votes were big. They basically kicked them out. These are just my opinions tho. :)

Omg the Kelly Rowland hair reference and Club 96 are the reason I love your recaps so much. Pure gold ❤ Supercharger storyline was perfect and is the best posible edit for Haruto. If he gets a bit more of Korean support after this he is locked for top 9. Next elimination is going to be very revealing. We have so many dark horses at this point. Gyu Vin falling of the ranks WOW, is like everyone has been talking about the fact that he mostly is going by looks and being tall, because realistically he hasn’t had a major shining moment on the show. And at this point we have like 12 other people who have had better editing/ showing of skill that can easily take his spot on the top 9. Only 3 episodes lef 😢😮. I’ve been lurking on these videos for a few weeks and I honestly hate commenting on things like KZbin videos because I don’t like being perceived but I don’t have anyone to talk to about this show (that I didn’t even want to get involved with in the first place) with - so here I am 🤷🏻‍♂️ The reason why I started actually watching the show and downloaded the app was because of the Woonggi dance off video and I decided had to be like one more vote supporting him. Like I feel insane. Which again… I’m not the kind of person to get involved but have have you all seen the show His Man (gay Korean dating show - could have been produced better but at least it’s something)? There was that one contestant at end who didn’t find a match but was talking about how he felt like he was finally able to be himself after being told to tone it down his whole life (he was a former k-pop trainee) and I keep thinking about that, like a world where k-pop was allowed to be unpolitically gayer and more idols were allowed to be unpolitically themselves (don’t come at me about projecting / assigning sexuality to people who I don’t know, A. I know all of this is projecting, I’m aware, I’m not happy about it either B. I’m not saying every idol is gay ⁽ᵘⁿᶠᵒʳᵗᵘⁿᵃᵗᵉˡʸ⁾ but every idol isn’t straight either 🤷🏻‍♂️ so) also it’s like not even about that - regardless of orientation the more people are able to express themselves without having to worry about heteronormative gender roles or whatever the better. Ugh this whole show is really ruining my whole dark brooding unbothered image I’ve tried to cultivate for myself. from the amount of reality tv i've seen from mnet, i have to say, i really don't think the matthew situation was an evil edit at all - for the first time in the season they let a g group member EXPLAIN HIS REASONS, that alone is shocking, they let matthew talk about his feelings and opinions while the situations with krystian and ma jingxiang were seen only by the korean trainees' eyes. i watched the live with comments on and people were definetly supporting him as well, while shanbin and jiwoong were being dragged (unfairly). let's see how this will play on voting (honestly i don't think it'll change that much atp).

Yeah, all of this - objectively I agree that it made more sense to swap the parts but (just going off the edit and what was shown) the delivery could have been better, like I can totally see how it could feel like they were ganging up on him, also I don’t know that they showed them discussing the range at all? Or maybe I missed it/ am remembering wrong but I feel like it came off more like you aren’t good enough for the part vs. it doesn’t suit your range. @@leif65 I actually feel like Jiwoong said the best thing he could have. He formulated his words in a "I just wanna see what it would be like if yall switched out of curiosity", meaning Matthew didn't feel cornered and attacked from the get go, and Jiwoong was the one to say it, so that Hanbin and Matthew's friendship wasn't strained right from the start of the conversation. I feel like Hanbin's solo comment was a bit too harsh for that given moment but it had to be said.

To quote Bob, when Matthew started crying I was like “this is a lot of emotion for first place.” Like, obviously I know Matthew never was #1 but he’s consistently in the top 4. Like honey, you’re fully in the top, you’ll be fine whichever part you get lmao. I also fully understood where Hanbin and Jiwoong were coming from in that moment, because Seungeon objectively sounded better as subvocalist 1 AND it was also to Matthew’s benefit to be subvocalist 2 because it was more within his range. Overall, it was in the best interests of the team to switch parts. And I don’t think Hanbin and Jiwoong were forceful, they were actually extremely gentle in the way they approached it. I think Hanbin hit the nail on the head when he said “this is a team performance, not a solo.”

It's common for parts to be switched around even after assigning them - we saw this happen in other teams for various challenges all season long. It also happens in real life when you're in a performance team. Sometimes after practicing the material, you realize that parts could be rearranged to better serve the team. In this case, after assigning the roles, all the members (including Matthew himself) realized that his parts were out of his range. But based on the footage we saw (because things could have played out differently), Matthew took the criticism as a personal attack and said he felt it was a "betrayal" for Hanbin and Jiwoong to ask him to switch parts. Like I said before, I think Hanbin hit the nail on the head when he said that this is a group performance, not a solo. Clearly, we all saw that Seungeon and Matthew both performed better AFTER their roles were switched, so Hanbin and Jiwoong were right.

I feel like there are more unsaid things with what Matthew's comments. To me, it sounded more like a child of immigrant parents who never felt like what they do is good enough unless its the top. While he said it's so his mom can understand the english lyrics, I feel as though it goes deeper than that. Also, while it's a simple part switch for the good, Matthew could be thinking, "im not good, that's why im being kicked out of my position. My parents would be disappointed. " That's just my thoughts. I could be so off. Haruto impressed me so much this episode. He led Super Charger so well. It's becoming so hard to choose people. I even had to make a list of my 3rd vote rotation and keep track that way 😅

He was genuine about his reason and all. Changing parts means repracticing new vocal parts, new dance formations and all that stuff. It's hard. Wish jiwoong was a little more understanding when discussing this issue. But jiwoong still did great as an oldest member. He was wise and strict. I love him so much💕

My take on the Shanbin/Matthew story arc this week is that Matthew was not evil edited. There is a big difference in the way Matthew was portrayed vs. Ma Jing Xiang for example because I think they allow Matthew to talk about his feelings and they paint him in a sympathetic way that doesn't make him appear like a villain. They showed Ma Jing Xiang as very one dimensional in several instances. I also don't think that Mnet is trying to separate Shanbin and Matthew regardless of whether or not Mnet wants Matthew in the lineup (I honestly can't tell if they do). I see this, and the last episode with the dance practice tension, as them setting up for a friendship resolution in the next episode. Shanbin and Matthew making up will also portray Shanbin in a really good light as the caring hyung doing what's best for the group while also looking after his younger bro. Idk, that's just my take. Also, I agree with others in the comments that Ji Woong displays the best leadership qualities. Tells it like it is, but does so in a sensitive way and always looks after the other members. I would also feel a lot better about Yu Jin debuting if Ji Woong is in the group. I feel like he would do his best to protect him. Seeing Ji Woong and Yu Jin interact in the say my name behind the scenes was really heartwarming and you can tell Yu Jin feels comfortable around him... Love this podcast and look forward to it as much/if not more than the actual show lol.

Always looking forward to watching these on my Sunday mornings!! 😊 This is very off topic (I’m sorry 😅) but there’s a Japanese idol boy group called Maison B and I went to their release party on Friday and you need to check out their member Shoya!!! During the concert he wore heels the whole time and at one point he got a moment where he came on stage alone and sat down in the middle of the stage just to change into higher heels for the next performance. It was so iconic! Their music is also very good in my opinion!😊

supercharger was so funny bc that specific group of people should NOT have been doing that song and YET they were incredible. i was proud lol idk i understand that en garde team should have shown up on time but i also felt like out of all the controversies on the show, that controversy was the most manufactured for television lol like they did not deserve the comments the masters were giving them. mnet was just like well this doesn't make for good tv if they're already doing well at the evaluation so we have to pretend like they suck so they can "improve". i was rolling my eyes at that whole segment. i liked the hanbin/jiwoong leader duo with hanbin ultimately calling the shots while jiwoong is the wise experienced older bro giving him subtle advice. power behind the throne, shall we say. it was a good dynamic even if the whole situation w/ matthew was bad.
