Good to learn that the over-and-under technique is not just for audio or data cables. I honestly (as a non-professional) was doing the elbow wrap up until pretty recently

Yes! Thank you for saying that about how manufacturers should stop wrapping the cables wrong! 110% agree

Don't get me wrong - Godox makes some AWESOME lights, and has a wide variety, for everybody's needs. I got the UL60, and it is not nearly bright enough for my needs. So I put it in a 4'x6' softbox and hung it over my worktable. Even there' I could use a few more umphs. LEDs are good for video, but I'll stay with flash for still photography. Incidentally, Hey! Long time, no see. Been busy with all those Hollywood starlets out there? When I was in the Marines at Twentynine Palms, CA in 1985, I wanted to return to that area when I got out. One thing led to another, and I've been stuck here on Isabella Island in Galapagos, seemingly forever! But, trust me! I would much rather be here that in the California it has become since I was last there.

yo yo! interesting! I do remember a while back you saying you were in some other country or something like that. Yea, if you are mainly doing photo, go flash. Bron colors seem to be a popular but pricey flash. Ive only worked with them once. And California does have some serious tiffs for sure. In addition to long time no see, I almost done editing my next 3 videos, which alll should be dropping within the week, Stay tuned! After these next ones though, lights are taking a backseat on my channel for a bit. Tons of stuff Ive now learned being in the union, and i'll be bringing them online. Like videos you can't see anywhere else, kind of thing. You know... Grip Videos hahaha

@@GripTips Far out, Grip Man! You really fell for that Galapagos BS? Okay, I'm gonna be serious here, for a moment... but it won't last long - next video, I'll be back to my usual self. I hope you're doing well out there. You seem like a cool enough dude. You're still reasonably young. Enjoy everything you can, while you can. I KNOW that will go in one ear and out the other. But it won't be long, and you'll be too sore to want to do anything, or you didn't plan for your retirement well, and now you can't afford to do anything. Seriously - it will hit you before you know it. It seems like just yesterday that you were making videos about baby pins, or Manfrotto Autopoles, etc. Boy, you're making me proud.

The other problem with the 100, is once you add the dish, it acts like a mega phone for the fan which is in the front of the light.

Yea, fans do suck but honestly? I’ve never had one so loud that it was an actual issue. Atleast not on any set I’ve been on. I could see fans being an issue if the set was very small and confined but this one wasn’t too bad imo
@108u9 Жыл бұрын
Hi Dave any sense on how dust gathered on the insides of the UL or on fans in LED fixtures might affect things? Don’t think the fans are usually user removable for cleaning? Wonder if you’ve experience any issues on set or heard from gaffers about any issues? Saw your reply to the other comment about sharing new learnings. Looking forward. Still remember enjoying your vlog moving with your buddy’s help!

Awwww, this makes me wanna call him hahaha. Thanks for the reminder. I actually haven’t heard of any maintenance on the fans. I’ll do some digging though

Is this why nearly everybody is thinking of switching to Gold Mount batteries?
@GripTips Жыл бұрын
Nah, tbh, gold mount was very common like 7 years ago but lately everything I’ve seen on jobs is v-mount
@GripTips Жыл бұрын
That being said though, I do miss gold mount. Just seemed easier to lock batteries, but meh, I can adjust, not really that big of a change imo

@@GripTips LoL Yeah... I placed sandbags at the beginning back in ... 1993/4. That's all I ever did... Wasn't allowed to touch anything else. Things are different nowadays. Especially with the industry in shambles as it is. Nahhh.. I don't miss it. LMAO You be good now! Later!

Is it just me, or does it seem that this light look like it was designed to be balanced upside down? I mean, come on... Nothing droops like that or should be that front heavy... I mean, TBH, I have seen things that front heavy, but, those mono lights, always have some sort of custom battery that mounts to the back, and balances itself back...
