Welcome! In this video I go over how to remove and replace the heater core in my 2001 Ford F-250 named Ms. Mildew. My apologies for all the sniffling in the video, getting over a cold. Also, I didn't film it but I had to convert the other quick connect that locked, as it was leaking. I'm not sure why Ford didn't just do worm clamps or spring clamps and call it a day. There's just enough room to work with either option.
Lastly, the big temp differential I talked about early in the video is actually by design. Ford put a flow restriction in that hose presumably because the heat would be too hot otherwise. I still do believe though the heater core itself had clogged passages that were restricting it's ability to radiate heat.

You want to put as much coolant as possible in that core before installing it or you will have trapped air in your core.

True. However, the cooling system will burp itself over time and engine cycles. So when I did this repair I would run the truck for a day or two then top off the coolant at the degas bottle. I did this until the fluid level in the degas bottle was stable.

Bet the only reason the right hose didn’t clip back in is cause it did only have 2 orings wen coming off. Nd new obrings are usable fatter unless buying exact ones!

After working with these quick disconnects more, the reason is that I had basically destroyed the white tabbed piece that is supposed to grab around the ridge in the heater core tube. At this point unless you have the full quick disconnect kit, I would just cut the barbs off the rubber hose and go with worm clamps or something like it. These things are too much fuss unless you have the exact tooling for them.

It's not as bad as it looks. If you decide from the beginning that you are going to not use the quick disconnects it's not bad. You cut the hose, get the heater core out from the passenger floorboard put new heater core in and lock hose in place with hose clamps. What took me so long is that I was trying to reuse the quick disconnects before I finally gave up on them and went to worm clamps.
