Probably the most frustrating thing about this is I got some amazing tones from 165128 on its return to Bedwyn but somehow I managed not to record the entire clip! So frustrating! One of my biggest fails to date! Still… lots of tones, two 59s and two 60s and a couple of trains on diversion! Other than the 165 noted - all other trains captured!

GWR has recently opened Reading Green Park station and you can still get freight trains passing through.

yeah i’ve not been there yet - the only downfall is that it’s on the opposite side of Southcote junction to Reading West so you’ll only get them stuff that’s come up from or going in the Southampton direction at Reading Green Park. Still looking forward to going there at some stage though.

I did think you’d like this one - i had amazing tones from a 165 but had a recording fail ☹️ right up there in the top 3 fails of 2023 so far!

@@AnthonyFurnival ah that sucks! Yeah, I did that one time when I got that iconic DVT horn, at speed so it sounded even better! I wanted to scream so bad. Thankfully I've gotten better tones since.. and not forgot to record them! 😂

Thanks for the video, it's my local station! I was under the impression that, when introduced, the 802's (which have a higher power output and greater range than the 800's) were, for this reason, intended for use on the West of England route due to the heavier gradients and longer distance on diesel power? However, looking at this video, it seems that the classes are mixed indiscriminately across all routes?

Thanks for watching - i’m glad you enjoyed it, to date it was one of my favourites to record. You are absolutely right about the IETs. The 802s are generally used on the routes down to Paignton and Penzance - i was in Teignmouth the other day and of all the IETs, all bar one were 802s - I think this day was a bit all over the place as there was flooding on the GWML so a lot of units were out of position and being diverted which may account for it appearing more random.
