I like what the Judge says about war existing before humans came around to properly conduct it. Platonism, as will be seen in Neal Stephenson's 'Anathem'.

Yes, this is quite accurate. I read Blood Meridian and Samuel Chamberlain’s My Confession (it can be ordered on Amazon) last summer. I find it rather ironic, if not humorous, that McCarthy’s most iconic, memorable, discussed, and uniquely profound character does not even belong to him. Even McCarthy’s “Kid” character is a shadow of Samuel himself.

I''m sure you love the book, but this comment disrespects the bones of things in my opinion.

I really never saw The Kid as Cormac’s representation of Chamberlain. I always thought that The Veteran, Chambers, was CM’s nod at Chaimberlain 🤔

You check out that christian analysis by that guy Caleb Smith? I'm not religious but I really liked his perspective on the book and would recommend it if you haven't seen it.

Personification of war here before man and waited on them like the Judge sitting on the rock, war judges men, war destroys innocence, war is eternal, all characters met him prior to meeting the group as they all experienced war before. War is war and not to be quantified

Dance dance wherever you may be I am the Lord of the dance said he and I will lead you all in the dance said he. This is not a Christian hymn about jesus 😅😅😅 far from it. Its about war in all its beauty and allure

Did you write this? Genius point!
@StuartAnderson-xl4bo Жыл бұрын
Visceral violence is true beauty in its pure glory of existing in that moment that's eternal its power, and exhilarating the blood is the life and no emotion equates to the taking of a life of a human while witnessing the soul leave that shell by your hand, that is the true emotion of men, hence why we worship war. This is our animal nature as old as time. True violence is beautiful in its excess. Destroying a living soul is the strongest emotional feeling bar none.
@StuartAnderson-xl4bo Жыл бұрын
@Djk092 yes I wrote it but that is the literal interpretation of Judge Holdens character he is the personification of war its alluded to all throughout the book. He is the fiddler leading the dance, he creates war when he manufactures the gunpowder, he is omnipresent as war throughout each parable in the novel. Many mistake him as death or the devil but that's incorrect he is war. In all its beauty and horror, its fairness and its ultimate inevitable outcome is what it is unalterable and unquantifiable. Its beautiful but repugnant at the same time.

I love the artwork. Especially the one where the supreme God shaped like a moon is watching the Judge, who is a demiurge, almost as he is displeased. The Judge is the false moneyer the Kid dreams about. He is the God of his false world. Although he is not the supreme creator, his imperfect “false” world is a product of his own and he rules over it, attempting to prevent people from entering the stage of “Gnosis” and reaching the next level

the judge in my mind is the development of human thought and it’s ultimate consequence. they ate of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, i.e thought & judgment, then inevitably as a result, conflict, war and self annihalation. we are “a creature that could do anything. make a machine. And a machine to make a machine. An evil that can run itself a thousand years, no need to tend it.” We’re all the judge.

War and violence is beauty just different you are never more alive than when at war and life is on the line. Blood is the life and taking a soul is a feeling very personal there is no feeling anywhere close to it.
