“Anything that exists in this world without my knowledge, does so without my consent.” The Judge

One of the most outrageously arrogant statements I've ever encountered in any fiction media, but it's absolutely impeccable characterization. Only someone like the Judge could say something like that with such conviction.

I just finished reading Blood Meridian for the first time and found these lectures. The Judge's note keeping reminds of Madame Defarge's knitting in A Tale of Two Cities. Her knitting was a way of recording and planning the extermination of the upper class. The female psychopath seeks revenge because it is her nature, the male psychopath is simply violent because it is his nature. Just some thoughts that went through my mind while I was out walking today.

The parallels with Judge Holden and Milton’s Satan are very strong when Holden makes the gunpowder

Great delivery. Like Kierkegaard or Nietzsche brought up to be pastors: yours is the cadence of an Oklahoma Parson, preaching a sermon, much more edifying than any I ever heard in church. 🙏🏼

It occurs to me that when the kid is having a fever dream of the counterfeiter making a coin while judge Holden watches and passes judgement on its creation, the counterfeiter (a stand in for the author maybe) is making a coin with the likeness of the kid himself on it in place of a president, to capture him, as was portended by the story the judge tells of the indian who asks him to help hide his own portrait in the cave in the mountains lest somebody were to mess with it, which the judge says he helped him to do. The judge is taking control of the kid, had his likeness captured and minted on a coin which he keeps with him, he steals the coin as he steals the coins off the pastor at the start

So when Cormac says "and the night does not end" does he mean that evil will endure as long as there are beings or men/people who are like Judge that are a king of counterfit? And is counterfit and the cold forger a metaphor for the false? In relation to the truth of the world?

But wouldn't it be more fitting that the Kid is the counterfeiter? Think when it the Man meets the Judge in the bar and how the Judge speaks about how the Man broke the pact. How he and he alone did not partake in the the coven of war and bloodshed. The Kid was attempting to fake his way through the company and was himself a counterfeit that the Judge knew and attempted to make "legal tender" out of.

He is the personification of war its obvious. War was here before men the book says the judge waits on a rock for the men. War judges all men, each man had met the judge before as they had been to War before etc etc
