“Unavoidable part of the fandom” see that where my problem is. Bronies are not alone on the internet for drawing weird kinky shit. Not even close. But most fandoms have enough understanding to at least try to lock that shit behind age restrictions. Bronies *should* have been extra cautious considering the intended demographic but instead they seem to have a specific lack of empathy over this issue.

@@KingOfGaymes am I reading this wrong? It doesn't sound like they got teased by grown men. They got teased for watching a show that they were too old for (the show was "too young for them"). So if they're already too old for it at 8 then obviously grown men are even more way too old for it... When I read it it sounded like it was their fellow 8 yr olds teasing them for liking a baby show or whatever
@KingOfGaymes
@KingOfGaymes 2 жыл бұрын
@@meowJACK I’m not saying grown men teased them..? I’m more commenting on the general irony that the actual target demographic for this show would think it’s not for them, while many grown men would watch it.. though I might’ve read it wrong as “too old” instead of too young

As much as I look back on the MLP Fandom with love and nostalgia omg the nsfw part of it was just uncontrollable. It felt like most fans who partook in that wore their sexual attraction to cartoon horses with pride. I remember in like 2013 or so. This little boy who loved MLP got hospitalized due to bullying or something. And it gained so much traction that he had an official pony in the show or either there was just a lot of fanart to show him he was loved. But of course weirdos went and made porn of him. And it got to the point the VAs and staff of the show were asking them to stop, but they didn't. Cuz what's quirkier and edgier than sexualizing the personification (ponification?) of a 9 year old boy.

Honestly I don’t think many do confront it, especially moc in these fandom spaces. we are seeing it more and more but young moc are hella susceptible to going down the alt right pipeline in a very self hating way. Like all these red pill black men podcast are just using alt right talking points to bash black women and black queer folk. instead of confronting Yt male supremacy for their feelings of impotence, it’s much easier and more gratifying (in a sociopathic/sadistic way) to punch down on people even more powerless than them.

Well then you'd be chocked to know in Sweden we have a specific liquor store (Systembolaget) that is regulated by the government, it's an alcohol monopoly and you can only buy beer up 3,5% or cider up to 2,5% in the grocery store. Personally I think it's great and it helps prevent alcoholism. Even though we can drink at 18 here and order at bars and restaurants, you can't buy alcohol at the store until you're 20. Drinking age in the US is something I'll never understand compared to other laws, the fact that you're allowed to get a drivers license at 16 or buy a gun at 18 in many states.

I started watching MLP:fim at age 22, I still enjoy it 10 years later haha liking it as an adult is not that deep, it’s just a good fuckin cartoon! but yes I understand why the creepy vocal minority gave the fandom an unfortunately horrible reputation, but most adult fans just enjoy it as the well written show it is (we intentionally avoided anyone who fetishized it). I kind of hope y’all watch it, it’s really not as “childish” as you keep implying, like it’s intentionally entertaining for all ages. teaches good morals and has progressive social commentary, genuinely funny, the characters have depth and real growth arcs, epic villains and battles in each season finale, and if you also thoroughly enjoy a colorful rainbow glittery cute aesthetic then it checks all the boxes! It was a huge comfort show for my friends and I while navigating our chaotic 20s and holds a special place in my heart for sure.

I've stuttered my whole life and can really relate to Sarah in the context that our brains move faster than our mouths. Even when I'm calm I'll stutter. Speech therapy wasn't really a good thing for me, but i just learned to be confident IN my stutter and that's helped a lot! And that goes with what she was saying about not getting hung up on it, just stutter and let it pass. :)

as a side note: they changed the tobacco rule in texas when i was 17, turning 18 (i am 20 now). they changed it bc the vaping situation got out of hand with minors so they changed to 21, however, they had this thing called the grandfather law (if you were already 18 or older when they changed the age limit, you were excused) but they ended up getting rid of that as well so now it’s 21.

my state changed it to 21 a few months after i turned 18 and they didn’t do the grandfather law. so i was 18 and could buy tobacco products for a little bit then suddenly the law changed no one would even sell me a lighter for another 2+ years.

Also, another note on that, this law isn’t just in Texas or some states. Trump passed federal law in 2019 that went into effect in 2020. The legal age to buy tobacco products is literally 21 in every single state, and it’s not subjective to individual state law.

Fun fact: we register dogs like horses. Lots of horses don’t go by the name that they are bet under. They have normal names. If your registering a dog with the akc no 2 dogs can have the same name so a lot of dogs have crazy long names. And then a “call name” they go by in everyday life.

Yeah as someone who is kinda??? In the fandom(I know too much, and used to watch the show) the fandom now is more full of women, and is much more of a safe space. It’s also accurate that most of the guys still in the fandom are nerodivergent (asd, adhd, so on) mlp was a special interest to so many, including me. It was prob one of my first special interests:D to see what the fandom is like today you could honestly go on the mlp tag on tumblr and Instagram and see how much more wholesome now that so many men left.

Bronycon unfortunately takes place in Baltimore, where I live. I worked at the baseball stadium one summer and explaining to the older people I worked with why the bronies were dressed the way they were was a TRIP. From Alabama and I've only seen beer and wine at grocery stores. No hard liquor. Even gas stations won't have liquor, only at ABC liquor store. And you can't buy wine or beer until after noon on Sunday. I think in Mississippi they have dry counties that don't sell alcohol at all, ever. But I got some family that make moonshine in Mississippi. No liquor store needed

Hey friend. I just wanted to let you know that referring to mental health/emotional therapy as “actual therapy” in comparison to other therapies such as speech therapy and physical therapy can sound invalidating. I’m sure this is not how you meant for your comment to come across but I just wanted to let you know that this wording may be misunderstood and could be hurtful. Genuinely, no hard feelings. I just know that I like to be told when something I say could be hurtful.

...I disagree where they say there isn't a double standard. They reference GI Joe when the woman is growing up and Def Leppard when she is an adult. Those are criticisms of liking things that are considered age appropriate; and while those are valid concerns they are not accurate comparisons to the topic. What the article they were referencing actually speaks to is that women can enjoy content geared towards young boys with less judgement than men liking things geared towards young girls. I.E. no one would say its creepy, or ask if she is a pedophile if a 30 year old woman was super in to, lets say a transformers cartoon or GI JOE like mentioned. Now, a creep is a creep... so I am not defending the ones who sexualize a children's show. But, (though I don't understand it) I am sure there are men who truly enjoy the show for what it is. Maybe they are men who feel they were/are not able to express their feminine energy. Maybe they are truly using it as escapism, not sure. But I don't think it's fair to lump an entire fandom in the negative.

Tbh it's not even just that. Cuz I feel you can enjoy stuff that's intended for kids despite your age. Whether it be for nostalgic or aesthetic reasons.
