Terri “Detroit” Huges grew up in privilege and stability. When the truth of her own life was revealed as a teenager it spiraled her into a journey that almost cost her life. Detroit is a mother, grandmother and a staunch advocate for her peers who remain on the streets. #TheyAreUs

This woman is not telling the whole truth. She is leaving the part that she chose drugs over a good financial life (her own words) with her adopted family. There is no reason why she keep living on skid row/hell on earth unless she is heavily on drugs or she is insane, or both.

It sometimes seems like the help offered doesnt break through . Here is proof that it can , right when a sufferer feels most alone . Now she can offer hope to others .

I am a formerly homeless person. My childhood next door neighbor once happened upon me, and gave me twenty dollars. Thirty five years later i sent him a twenty dollar check.( i forgot about interest, however.)

Well... if you're going to be homeless... Southern Cali is the place to be homeless. It's only got the greatest weather in all of the USA. If you're homeless, not having to worry about bundling up and frostbite and the miserably cold wind blowing you in the fact for half a year... it's a huge luxury to be homeless in LA, as opposed to, say, Manhattan.

People are so judgmental... I pray that you all never have to experience being homeless!!! Never have to wonder if your gonna be safe...warn... fed...clothes etc... i was homeless with 3 little kids .. never done a drug in my life. I was working 2 jobs and college full time... just simply couldnt make enough to pay rent and bills and everything else!! So we ended up camping for 4 months in the summer at a canpsite.. the kids just thought we were camping they still say its the best summer they ever had.... no idea we were homeless at the time.. i made it as home as possible... not everyone homeless is there by choice or is a drug addict... sometimes shit happens... my mom used to say were all one paycheck away from being homeless.. its not that far from the truth.. so remember that while your in your perfect home.. with your perfect life and your perfect job and your perfect bank account... it could be you one day..would you want people to label and judge you.. let he without sin. cast the first stone... who cares why they are there... there are alot of reasons ppl become homeles.. mayne she did have great parents and a wealthy life. but obviously being given away for not being good enough by her mother messed with her head.... so maybe in her mind she wasnt good enough for the life her adoptive parents were giving her.. she obviouslt felt very unwanted and unloved.. just because your parents are wealthy and you want for nothing.. doesnt mean you have it all.. you can have money and a home and all of that and still feel unwanted and alone as hell!!! Quit judging people... it could be you or your kids ar family out there one day..n remember that people!!

I pray she discovers just how seen and loved she is by a God who will forever love her beyond what she can ever ask or imagine. I pray she experiences Jesus in a way that breaks that feeling of unworthiness and I pray she discovers her value. If anyone knows her or ever meets her, please remind her of who she is. She is God's child, so she is seen, valued, and so loved. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN
