Genocide Advocated by the Talmud Minor Tractates. Soferim 15, Rule 10. This is the saying of Rabbi Simon ben Yohai: Tob shebe goyyim harog ("Even the best of the gentiles should all be killed"). This passage is from the original Hebrew of the Babylonian Talmud as quoted by the 1907 Jewish Encyclopedia, published by Funk and Wagnalls and compiled by Isidore Singer, under the entry, "Gentile," (p. 617). This original Talmud passage has been concealed in translation. The Jewish Encyclopedia states that, "...in the various versions the reading has been altered, 'The best among the Egyptians' being generally substituted." In the Soncino version: "the best of the heathens" (Minor Tractates, Soferim 41a-b]. Israelis annually take part in a national pilgrimage to the grave of Simon ben Yohai, to honor this rabbi who advocated the extermination of non-Jews. (Jewish Press, June 9, 1989, p. 56B). On Purim, Feb. 25, 1994, Israeli army officer Baruch Goldstein, an orthodox Jew from Brooklyn, massacred 40 Palestinian civilians, including children, while they knelt in prayer in a mosque. Goldstein was a disciple of the late Brooklyn Rabbi Meir Kahane, who told CBS News that his teaching that Arabs are "dogs" is derived "from the Talmud." (CBS 60 Minutes, "Kahane"). University of Jerusalem Prof. Ehud Sprinzak described Kahane and Goldstein's philosophy: "They believe it's God's will that they commit violence against goyim, a Hebrew term for non-Jews." (NY Daily News, Feb. 26, 1994, p. 5). Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburg declared, "We have to recognize that Jewish blood and the blood of a goy are not the same thing." (NY Times, June 6, 1989, p.5). Rabbi Yaacov Perrin said, "One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail." (NY Daily News, Feb. 28, 1994, p.6).

@@ReflectionsMPH I would like quotations and sources sir that present Non Jewish people positively. Quotations from the Oral Torah that present Cutheans or non Jewish people postively. Since this is a forum you have enough space to do that quite easily. Just stating something as being so without any quotations and sources is not enough to convince any intelligent person. I myself use Soncino but you can use whichever version you want; I will read whatever you present. You need more than just a claim if you want to be taken seriously.

Talmud quotes: "The Jews are called human beings, but the non-Jews are not humans. They are beasts." Talmud: Baba mezia, 114b "The Akum (non-Jew) is like a dog. Yes, the scripture teaches to honor the the dog more than the non-Jew." Ereget Raschi Erod. 22 30 "Even though God created the non-Jew they are still animals in human form. It is not becoming for a Jew to be served by an animal. Therfore he will be served by animals in human form." @@ReflectionsMPH I am now reading this retort for the second time now and I can only say that it seems really only to be a statement of faith at this point. Please sir prove your words with relevant quotations that support your position that Non Jewish individuals are treated in a positive manner in the Oral Torah; if there are so many examples as you say it should be easy for you to prove your point. I consider you to be an intelligent man. I have some degree of respect for you as a content creator. So to be very frank I am expecting evidence from the Oral Torah to support thine own position. May the Lord guide and bless thee.

Practically, the Oral Torah ended with the invention of the printing press, now it is the printed Talmud. The references in the Talmud are not scripture, nor do they have the status of the Christian Church Fathers, they are just unfiltered commentary. And with the severe persecution of the Jews, you would expect that some comments would be unjustly critical of Christians. In my videos on Judaism I quote from the commentary on the Torah plus the Book of Legends, which has the main moral teachings of the Talmud. In these sources I have not seen any anti-Christian screeds, although there are critical comments in the Mizvah that there should be one God, which is expected.

This epistle is part of my personal canon. I see the gospel message in it. There are a great many people who view the entire New Testament as Anti Jewish. What can I do about that? This is who I am; a Christian. I view the Oral Torah as Anti Gentile, Anti Christian, and Anti Samaritan. We should be critical of everyone if we want to be fair.

The Oral Torah is no more, since the printing press was invented, it functionally rolled into the printed Talmud. The Talmud and Mishnah IS NOT Anti Gentile and Anti Christian, I have read selections from it, to say that it is is not fair. The Talmud is sprawling, and there are a few anti-Christian comments in the corpus. We have several videos on anti-Semitism. Barnabas is not part of the official canon, and you can make a strong argument that it is anti-Semitic. I usually read the actual works before I read the commentaries, and definitely before I comment on them.

@@ReflectionsMPH My personal canon is not official and religious officials will never control me, ever! Your very post displays the reason why. If you have such arguments against an epistle that was accepted by Clemens, Alexandrinus, Origen, Eusebius, and Jerome, then I suppose that they and the early church in general was Anti Jewish. Frankly I respect their opinions about this epistle more than your own. I do not base my faith upon what is popularly accepted or promoted by overbearing officials I base my faith upon what I believe in. I have read passages in the New Testsment that are just as harsh as the epistle of Barnabas if not harsher. "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, 30And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. 31Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets." - Matthew 23:29 to 23:31 Many Rabbis consider the Pharisees to be their predecessors in Judaism. They are still highly respected today in Jewish religious communities and are considered to be some of the key innovators of their Faith "When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? 41They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. 42Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? 43Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof." - Matthew 21:40 to 21:43 These verses are directed at the chief priests, scribes and Pharisees. Those people are to this day respected by many Jewish people and some of them are of the opinion that the New Testament itself is Anti Jewish; furthermore that is not an uncommon opinion and if you do not believe me search for some rabbinic opinions about the New Testament in general and see what they consider it to be. In regard to the Oral Torah and I will use that term regardless if you do not approve of it because I see fit to not use the T word for the purposes of having this post stay on the thread. It is a hot word, so to speak, infamous in a sense and well known. CUTHEAN Used as euphemism for non-Jew: 'Cuthean' (Samaritan) was here substituted by the censor for the original goy (heathen) [< Sanhedrin 57a, note 33] - PG 29, The Soncino Babylonian Talmud, Reformatted by Reuven Brauner, Raanana 5771, THE SONCINO PRESS LONDON euphemism substitution of a milder or socially acceptable word or phrase for one that is harsher or more unpleasant Said R. @@WindwardQuietist I look for the good, not the bad. I have read Rashi, Ramban, and Rambam, and nearly everything is beneficial. Eusebius lists the criteria for a book to be considered canonical, one criteria is widespread acceptance. There are indeed New Testament verses that seem to be anti--Semitic. Vatican II teaches us that we should not say that the Jews are guilty of deicide. But we also should read these ancient books in the context of their culture and their times.
