I was in the market for an aluminum board and was waiting for the Wobkey Rainy 75 to drop but it's going to be a few months so I decided to pick up the Galaxy 80 a month ago and give it a try. It felt and sounded pretty good out of the box but I thought it could sound better so I did a force feedback Mod and replaced the switches, which WS Morandi switches. Now this keyboards is pretty close to perfect for my personal taste. I'm very happy with the Galaxy 80.

I swapped the keycaps for some cherry profile ones (also from epomaker) and I'm hoping to upgrade to Morandis later when I have the budget. How much of an upgrade over the stock switches would you say it was? I'm quite happy with mine out of the box so far so I may prioritize other parts of my setup before getting those switches.

The leaf-spring claim is only partially wrong. There are many kinds of gaskets, and this kind is the closest to "leaf-spring" in a traditional gasket mount as you get, as the points of contact are at the tips of legs extending from a bendy plastic plate, so the plate itself bends before the mounting points, whereas other gaskets may just be a flat tab that squishes foam beneath which is harder to push down, or worse something like monsgeek where the flat tab is inside or on a silicone jacket that doesn't squish at all.

Really gives the Nuphy Gem some competition with the Aluminium TKL and a mid-sculpt keycap profile. The Gem 80 is a little more stylized but that might be a con for some. I think prefer the Gem's Mocha to this Green/Grey. Wish there was more straight white builds.

i just picked one of these up in the black and seafoam color way..... it is absolutely a great keyboard..... it has such a unique sound.... with double shot pbt keycaps and some nice marble switches..... i got to say i am very impressed for 96 bucks shipped to my door.... to be fair tho i did end up relubing the stabs as a few of my large keys had a tiny bit of rattle that kind of bothered me a little..... but for the price i am not complaining at all..... it has been a great replacement over my modded rk-61

I just ordered this keyboard to use with Linux, primarily on PC but possibly also for the Raspberry Pi. It's unfortunate that the settings software is only written for Windows, but as long as the instruction manual is clear and goes over all the options, and as long as they are all accessibility directly through the keyboard itself with key combinations, I don't think the lack of OS-level software is much of a downside.

[HELP] Will this work flawlessly on a Mac? I know it has a built-in switcher for Windows and Mac, but I've read many complaints about keyboards that offer the same switcher yet lack Mac compatibility. # I don't really care about RGB customization; I just want my modifier keys and shortcuts to work like the native Mac keyboard. I can even use Karabiner to further customize it if I want to.

Yes! standard 3 or 5 pin switches (gateron/kailh/cherry/etc.) are compatible so you can swap them out for any kind that you like!

The charging light never turns off on this mf. No matter what the manual says. Wireless features work well with less interference than NuPhy. But battery drain is a bit fast.

@@nebulazykbs The Cidoo V87 (and Typone S87 and Chosfox Leo80) + Cidoo V21 (and LMK21) numpad are the same. They all have that position with the switch socket holes AND the knob pin holes, but as far as I'm aware none of them advertise it as being swappable at all. Like it was planned and then dropped or implemented and totally forgot about as a selling point.

Great review as always! Keyboard manufacturers have been calling a certain type of gasket mount as leaf spring, when it is a bar with socks that is connected to the plate/pcb only in the very middle. Technically it makes sense, but it does lead to believe that it's a real leaf spring mount, when it isn't. The Weikav Record alice board is a true leaf spring aluminum keyboard for a great price and I highly recommend it for anyone curious about that mount.

@7:47 epomaker stop doing stupid sh!t like this. You offer RGB and supply keycaps that don't have shine through? You put the burden of extra cost onto the customer. At least make an option for shine through keycaps FFS.

Almost all budget and mid-range mechanical keyboards have full RGB now, and most of the good ones have white switch plates so the RGB is brighter and more even between the keys. Shinethrough caps generally are very low quality and will make the boards sound worse than they otherwise should. Shinethrough sets are only 10-20 on Amz, so you can just get one of those and put it on any board you want, of all sorts of different layouts as well since it's a full set rather than what's included on a prebuilt which won't transition between say TKL to 75% as they require different modifier sizing. This board also comes in barebones, in all colors, wired and wireless, and the wired one specifically is vastly cheaper right now at 54 bucks, leaving tons of room for you to pick whatever switches and shinethrough caps you want.

Shine through doesn't work to a generally satisfactory level on south facing PCBs so that's probably why the Galaxy80 supplies normal keycaps. The correct solution would be a north facing PCB option but enthusiast keyboards are almost all south facing for historical reasons. Modern switches no longer require south facing so it's a bit sad.
